Just out of interest, what is DOTA?
Extremely popular Warcraft 3 gametype that has its own (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikDdNDt_S70) song and is the national sport of South Korea.

if you played a game like this would you take it for what Its worth or would you just mercilessly throw it against the adamantium monolith of system shock?
[...]
and if it were really good would you say so or just complain about it because its not system shock?
I guess that the most likely way for this to happen would be if you'd insist on associating the game with System Shock prior to its release. And by associating it, I mean hinting that the game will be a Shock look-alike, a spiritual successor, or anything of the sort. Bioshock is a good example of what can happen in such a case.

lol someone actually made a song about DOTA. Thats hilarious. Song had an alright beat to it too.
I know the guy who runs the unofficial servers for it here in Aus.
Very very popular mod at the moment.

Basshunter are one of the most awful bands in the world :p We put them on at our events sometimes..mostly to annoy.
Check out "Boten Anna" sometime too.
"she'll ban you so hard" :S

If you need another voice actor, I'm sort of available (for instance, I could do 1-2 Audio logs) :D

Sorry, this is not constructive feedback. It is merely the only result that turns up "Basshunter".
I checkedd out "LOL" (the album) as commanded by a fellow DotA-playing friend. I can't judge euro pop dance but it sounded quite euro-poppy dancy to me. But wait! Just now I found them playing "Boten Anna" on The Hits, but it has retarded english lyrics as well as the obligatory meat show video and is called "Now You're Gone". I don't understand.

A song about a dude falling in love with an IRC bot is hardly going to sell to British teeny boppers.

Hey guys.
Our mod went the way of 98% of mods. No surprise there. least of all to me after what I've had to go through the last 2 months.
our team "leader" decided he'd pull the plug. not that it was much of a big deal he pissed off most of the team and they left anyway.
He felt it was too ambitious of a project. But thats okay with me because none of my ideas are going to be bastardized by his vision.
So just to let you know. this mod is dead. But I'm going to continue with it on my own terms and i'll do it right.
Rather than try to make it sound like a flawless plan and try to defend myself against the reality of mod success rates. I"m just going to let you guys know what my plan is.
I've got most of the concept and plot figured out. I"ll write it out and author the story so its all set in stone so-to-speak. and write up a good design document outlining the whole thing. I've got friends I don't have to use a computer to speak to who are quite artistic that are more than willing to help me out.
I'm planning on getting the majority of the game mapped out with a mostly null texture kind of style, full of place holders and all that. Enough that somebody who is interested in such a project would see that the person who spawned it has put considerable effort into it.
I'm also moving to UE3. I realize this will result in a big groan for a lot of people. but frankly its what is best for the mod. UE3 is so much easier to work with than Source. Theres so much you can do just in the level editor itself. And it comes with its own compiler built in for editing code. I wouldn't even need an IDE to edit the UnrealScript.
So i'll get it all written down. and "orange mapped" so-to-speak. and once I've gotten a considerable amount of it done I'll look to the community for some help.
As far as you guys are concerned though theres nothign to get excited about yet anyway so.. you know.. just ignore me if you want to. I havent shown anything but a bit of music.
Personally I'm really excited. I've learned some things about UE3 and UnrealED that make it stupid easy to do what I'm proposing. After the crude outline is finished I'll look for help with people who are more visually artistic than I am, people for voice acting, and better programmers than I am to help out. at which point I'd be open to suggestions and better ideas that I've had for the project to. One thing that was a major flaw in the failed mod was that our team was not a team. and our leader wanted it all his way, and he didn't know how to lead in the first place.
I think i'm rambling so I'll stop. Thanks for all the encouragment though. I"ll post my progress when I have something cool to show.
