Need a good class name. - by LancerChronics

Alright, so I pretty much gave up on trying to make the perfect face for a Breton. However I still wanted a good looking character that's basis was in magic. I realized the easiest way to not worry about a characters feature's were to make them pitch black. There are only 2 races this works for, Orcs and Dark Elves. So my magic character will be one of the two.
Now for the class. I decided to completely screw the regular fighting system. You know, block. slash-slash. block. slash-slash. etc. Instead, in order to get my magic based character I decided to make a tank. Not like mmo tank, but like a military tank. Heavy Armored with a big boom. It actually works pretty well. I sit there with shieldup while the guy pounds on it, then unlease a powerful fireball.(This is just tutorial part not sure how it will pan out in the main game) I only will carry a swordfor magic immune. Like those stupid argonians in Arena.
So, now that you know my plans. I need a name for this type of class and character. Think of it like a wall(shield) with a cannon poking out. Also, it will probably be magicka-intensive in the beginning. So which sign should I go with. As neither of the 2 races I'm considering have a bonus. Atronach gives the largest, but the stunted magicka will be a slight pain. Also character name ideas would be nice. Chronics doesn't sound orcish, but I also don't want the obvious like Thug'nuk and Torrak.
if you took the time to read all this, thx. So....Your thoughts? 2 gold?'s ?

Is that exactly what the basic sorceror class is?
LancerChronics on 26/4/2006 at 04:01
Sorcerer is a magic user specializing in heavy armor, however it doesn't use block. I also want to customize the attributes and a few other skills slightly. And sorcerer sound too generic. I don't picture a heavy armored creature of magical doom when I hear the word "sorcerer". I know it sounds stupid and like extra work, but I have to like how my character looks and sounds if I am going to play him effectively.

Wouldn't the term battlemage sound good enough?
Phatose on 27/4/2006 at 02:12
Battlemage is a basic class though, and they tend to use blades.
Mystic Juggernaut maybe?

Warmage, maybe?
Or Turtle. Yes. Turtle.

I believe Ajax, the ancient greek king and toilet cleaner who erradicates 99 per cent of all bacteria, was famous for his gargantuan Tower Shield. He was also built rather like a tank as I recall.
I therefore commend the Ajax class to the assembly.

A'jax would make a good character name, so I may name him that. Warmage and battle mages I can't invision with a giant shield. They sound like two hand axe types. I actually considered Turtle, but it seems too basic. Maybe it can be worked off of? Turtle-Kin? Or the more rugged and dangerous Tortoise?
As far as the signs go, still not sure which is best. I ran a generic through Tutorial and the first dungeon across the dock(which has horrible loot btw, except the weyleid stones, don't know what the note means). Well, the generic was sporting the Atronach, and I noticed that mana goes down REALLY fast. And its hard to find mana casters. Does this get any better as levels go up? should my first step with atronach be to find and buy a summon spirit spell for regen purposes?
Keep up with the ideas! Oh and does anyone know how the mana bonuses go for Breton and High Elves in Oblivion? am I damaging myself by setting my sights on a non-magic specialized race?

The preset thiefy classes didn't quite have what I wanted so I created my own custom one. I named it the only thing I could think of, which was pretty laffo when the game asked me "are you sure you want to play as an Asshole?"
gets my vote

In reverse order:
Non-specialized races can play mage hybrids just fine with the Atronarch. I'm currently playing a Redguard/Atronarch/Jack-of-all-trades (mostly magic & blade) and I have no problems with magical combat.
High-Elf has +100 Magicka and Breton has +50. While nice, the bonus Magicka offered by the two races isn't as critical as in Morrowind, where it was a multiplier instead.
The first step to playing an effective Atronarch is accepting that Alchemy is God. You can do the summon ghost/absorb attack thing, you can lug around tons of Welkynd Stones or Potions of Sorcery. While both are good neither compares to the raw power gained by an Atronarch that uses Alchemy for Magicka recovery (Flax, Steel Blue Entomola and Bog Beacon Asp all offer Restore Magicka as the first effect). Especially since Alchemy also offers several other benefits through potions.
And spell users become much more common in the later levels, especially when confronting Daedra.
