im looking for other spots wth necromancers other than dark fissure and pothole cave. anyone know of any, or another way to make black souls without mages' guild? i need a black soul gem for vaermina(sp?).

? Why not just use dark fissure? The altar works even if you don't do the mages guild quests. Wait til the appropriate night (I think it's friday, or the oblivion equivalent, or whenever it is the lights appear in the sky), put an empty grand soul gem in it, and hit it with a soul trap spell.

Ive seen an Altar at some Aleid ruins called Wendelbek (If you look at the Panter river its somewhat in the middle of the "U" shape the river has directly above the name), no idea about the time tho.
Found another one near some Fort. Was activated when i reached it, during the day even. But since that was somewhat early in my game and i didnt know what to do with it back then i couldnt for the hell tell you were it was or how it was named. Gotta be pretty close to the Imperial City in the Heartlands tho.
EDIT : Tee hee, totally off. I looked abit and its Fort Istirus, almost exactly in the middle between Skingrad and Kvatch, short distance south of the road.

They look like big stone chests. It's not actually in the dark fissure either - it's the big stone thing right outside the entrance.

Can I just ask what black soulgems are and how they differ from ordinary ones practically? I found the altar where you can make them, but didn't really recieve any information as to what they're for [base assumption that they're just extra strong soulgems that can be used to trap humanoids, but that's speculation].

A black soul gem is a necromantically transformed grand soul gem. It has exactly the same capacity and functionality as a grand soul gem, but it is capable of trapping the souls of humans and other NPC types, while grand soul gems cannot.

Fig, the Dark Fissure is straight east from Vaermina's Shrine (it's a ways east though, crossing the Reed River.) Look at the Daedric Shrine thread for the location of Vaermina's Shrine if you don't have it.
