If you can't understand the very simple, retard-easy fact that these people have serious problems, much of it to do with parenting and the adults in their lives (and that the media to which they're attracted is a mostly a symptom, not the problem, if it says anything about them at all, which is highly speculative in the first place), then no, I guess I don't understand "the youth of today.
I count 7 commas in this sentence. I also agree with ALL of it.

And everyone else on TTLG is saying, what the fuck does this have to do with emo music? These types of attitudes have been around for a long time, it's nothing new.
Depressed people very likely listen to depressing music (what a shocker, I know). It's pretty absurd to conclude that the music is what made them depressed in the first place.
Fett, SE, and you, all completly misunderstood me. I'm not saying emo music has
anything to do with the shooting. I'm saying emo music might have something to do with people ignoring people who echo the messages, just because it's so prevelant, atleast in the group of college/highschool kids I know. I'm NOT making excuses for those who didn't act on the signs OR, especially, the kid himself. I'm just saying that attitude is common in kids today, and it tends to desensitise me. Where 2 or 3 years ago I would be alarmed if some kid consistently told me that everything and everyone in his life sucks and that life has no purpose anymore, today it's just another day at the office.

This looks like an appropriate time to point out that emo is shit.

Maybe it's different over here but if someone did keep saying that kind of stuff, I'd try to find out if they
really meant it or if they were just saying it for the sake of saying it.
Even if I started spouting suicide sermons (well, I wanted to maintain the alliteration)
without meaning it, I'd expect those around me to be a little concerned until they realised I was just being self indulgent.

Also, moving into impartial statistics mode, deaths due to gun related crimes and murder are dwarfed by things such as medical accidents and car crashes. Should one rejoice in preventing the occasional high-profile massacre or doing something about road safety so that a thousand less people are killed each year.
Oooo! Oooo! *jumps on soapbox*
We have the technology to create a totally automated "Personal Rail Transport" system consisting of small rail cars which automatically go to programmed destinations. It would be cheaper, more fuel efficient, and potentially entirely green if the central power sources were made renewable. And, while
some accidents are always going to be inevitable, taking out the daily human error element should drop it by at least 99.9%. We're talking 40,000+ deaths in the U.S. alone, nevermind injuries and damages.
I have difficulty thinking of anything that
should be more important than beginning a switchout of our transportation infrastructure. Cars as we know them are fundamentally technologically obsolete and should be relegated to the status horses have now: sure, some enthusiasts will always love 'em, but you probably don't ride one to work!
...Sorry. Couldn't resist.
