Alternatively, you could be a narcissist, which would actually explain a great deal about human behavior anyway. You could even tie this into the evolutionary idea above and bring in the success of humanity as a species, which you yourself observed as the overpopulation crisis (which, ironically, is now a grave weakness).
This chap Postman had this fascinating theory about Narcissus. The original story is how Narcissus fell in love with his reflection in a river and drowned, moral being look how vain he was, vanity is a sin and has consequences.
But Postman stated that his vanity wasn't the reason he fell in love with his reflection. He fell in love because he didn't recognise himself anymore (largely due to media and tv but that's not my point). My point is that people have evolved so far that we can no longer simply say "I am a human" in the same manner as a ring tailed lemur would be able to own to that. Now we say "I am a conservative, vegetarian, middle-class, asian, capitalist, lesibian with a hunchback and dandruff".

We're now one step closer to the incredibly redundant task of transplanting heads, like we were discussing not that long ago!

If we get to the point where we can routinely perform head transplants, I'd like to have my head put in another animal, say, a dolphin. :thumb:
Be more practical. Animal body won't accept your head.
Most importantly this is a great opportunity for transsexuals.

Does this basic concept extend in your world outside of scientific testing as well?
If not, why?
If so, how can you live with yourself?
You seem to have missed the various articles on the man (men?) who willingly signed a contract that involved his death and consumption at the hands of a homosexual cannibal.

I wasn't aware mopgoblin was involved. Thanks for clearing that up!

Whenever I ask ring-tail lemurs if they are, in fact, ring-tail lemurs, they just stare at me like I'm stupid.

There is a fire: you go in to try to resuce survivors and find a dog, and a child. Which one do you rescue?
I am hoping you all picked the child.
Now what if its one rat and thousands of children?
You'd pick the thousands of children to save, right?
Now with animal testing its not like the rats have the options of 1) being tested on or 2) living happily in the fields. Their options are 1) being tested on or 2) never having existed.
The lives of animals for animal testing isn't worse than never having existed and in most cases they don't suffer. Disections are performed after brain death normally which is still techinally vivisection because of the arcane laws which count animals as alive while their heart is beating but humans are alive while their brains are still functioning.
Much less suffering than living in the wild and being eaten by a cat / starving to death etc.
