They're working on it. It started as (
http://www.starryexpanse.com/) Starry Expanse, but now those guys work directly for Cyan.
The focus of the new Myst is mostly VR though, where Starry Expanse was supposed to be the fan version of RealRiven.
Btw, I've had the Quest version of Myst since it came out, and it's fantastic in VR.
Thanks for the info! That's very encouraging. I run Linux though, so VR is... problematic.

I loved Myst but none of the updates have satisfied, and I'm not impressed with the music in the new trailer - I really loved the exotic minimalism of the original and this new stuff (assuming the music in the trailer is representative of the whole game) seems really overdone.
The music in the trailer is just...trailer music. As far as I can tell, the music within the game uses the same exact soundtrack they've used since the original game.

Have you played it? Seems odd that they'd use a variation like that for the trailer if it's not in the game.
(That's not a snide "hAvE yOu PlAyEd It" btw, sincere question.)

Yep, the Quest version anyway.
I'm guessing their thought process is the soundtrack is just too classic to change. They re-released it on vinyl earlier this year after all.

I learned to stop watching trailers, which has improved by enjoyment of hyped games quite a lot.
Look at Arkane's stuff: Prey's trailer suggested a horror game, and DEATHLOOP's suggests a stylish murder romp. And those trailers are from the AAA sphere, as professional as they get.
True, the music was essential to Myst, but it was atmospheric music, and trailers are incapable of atmospheric music. They're just too short for it.

There were anniversary remasters of Myst and Uru recently too. Stunningly good stuff. Honestly a part of me thinks that all I really want to do is listen to the soundtracks while I watch slideshows of various Myst locales.
