My turn. Unable to play T2 or any T2 Fm's - by bobber

Well it has happened. Without warning my T2 suddenly crashes to the desktop with the error message lgvid.ax.
Searching around I can't find a specfix fix to the problem except a total reinstall.
So I did the following:
Uninstalled T2 completely and did a fresh install. Updated to ver 1.18. I have my original disk in the drive and I still crash.
I tried running the game from my desktop and thru DarkLoader 4.3 but no luck.
I have the latest nvidia drivers and updated my DirectX files. Everything is updated.
My wife and cat are very concerned for me due to my long term Thief addiction so any help is greatly appreciated by people and a cat who thinks he is a person.
Thanks in advance!

It would help if you listed your system specs. I may be wrong but I think this is related to Nvidia cards. Perhaps bikerdude knows something about this.

If I am not mistaking, this is a codec that is required to play the cutscenes.
There is qute a bit of info on the web about it, and NV is mentioned in this one:

Others say it is a registry error. Find a program that will clean up your Registry, and there should already be one by default on your computer. If you read the info via the link I sent, it will explain it.
The same error occurs in System Shock II, and In TG, and TMA. Others too!

Installed and ran ddfix but the same crash/error occurs.
I have an older Dell Dimension 8200 desktop w/2.53 cpu, WinXP w/SP3, nvidia Geforce 6200 w/512 mb ram.
Funny thing is I can still run T1 and T1 FM's. Strange.
Thanks for the suggestions but no luck thusfar.

Hi bobber, This is merely a suggestion, and I would be leary of trying it without asking an expert first, but have you thought of using " System Restore" a week or a month before something changed? Be sure and backup whatever you can on DVD data disk first if you can. If it is a registry error, it may not fix it. I use RegCure ( A Registry Cleaning and repair Program) It actually saved one of my xp computers from the trash haul on Saturday.
One more thing to try that I know of:
Try registering the codec first then launching the game:
Start->Run: regsvr32 "c:\your\path\to\thief2\LGVID.AX"
where c:\your\path\to\thief2\ matches your own path.
Then launch the game.

darthsLair, I did try that with no luck but only went back 1 day. I will try a restore from last week or so. Won't hurt to try. I'll check out RegCure too. I did try the registry cleaner that comes with Ccleaner but that didn't work.
I'll keep trying!
Thanks!

Me thinks its time you got a new set of disks for T2,
This has happened to me before and got a new set and everything was fine after...and it doesnt hurt to keep a back up set...maybe it couldnt read something on the disk and kept crashing?

Methinks I've got it. I went through each of the suggestions provided and ended up getting it up and running. Buried in one of the FAQ's was a note to remove a semicolon in the user.config file in my Thief2 directory. I missed that in several reading sessions but when I did notice it I tried it and the game seems to be running ok!
Thank you everyone for your help.
