A well written article, Dave. Indeed. However I really don't believe T4 will be the game that says "SEE? This is what we've been making a big deal about all these years! THIS is why you need to leave behind mindless shooters and support games that challenge and inspire." I honestly don't think that T4 will be the kind of game that encourages the younger gamers (who like blasting through mindless shooters) to actually give the original Thief games a try. They don't have the patience or the attention spans necessary.
Where I come from, it's still okay to say you don't like something; not saying that it's bad or hoping others won't like it, just saying it doesn't appeal to you. Now that my shock at what EM is doing to the Thief saga has worn off, I find I honestly don't like very much about T4 at all (pretty graphics, though; lots of blue). It looks like another dumbed-down game like so many others that have been released in the past few years and regardless of whether or not I feel as though it does or doesn't detract from the original Thief games, it just doesn't appeal to me. And that's okay. I know what I like, and that would be nothing I've seen in the information released on T4 to date.

That was a good read, fett. Thanks for sharing:D In terms of Thief 4(or Thief Reboot, as I tend to call it), I'll probably give it a rent once I've saved up the money to afford a PS4, as there are several other next-gen exclusive titles I'm interested in playing outside of Thief. I'm not getting my hopes up too high that it will be as good as the original games though, but I'm also not expecting it to be an unplayable mess. Eidos Montreal have to make as many changes to the Thief formula as possible(whether us old-school fans like it or not), for the betterment of the overall sales. As I'm sure many of us have noticed, Square-Enix isn't doing too well at the moment and practically needs all the money it can get at this point from the masses of gamers out there, putting tons of money on the line in the hopes that this reboot will succeed in reaching their sale goal and therefore help keep themselves afloat. Still, it's hard to bestow confidence on a developer that's basically butchered most of what Thief originally stood for in the gaming market with plenty of justified negative criticism surrounding the game as a result, I'm not expecting it to do too well in the long run:(

Going back and playing classics you missed out on the first time around is tough for most gamers, not just young ones, and I don't think the desire to do so is a good measure of a game's quality. I loved Skyrim, but I don't feel any particular inclination to subject myself to the technical hassles, low-res graphics, outdated gameplay, and rudimentary controlmethods of one of the more elder
Elder Scrolls games, like Daggerfall.

You left out one comma in your article, fett. I am disappointed.
Thief 4 is ruined. :(

My goal was to destroy gaming in general. My next article will deal with how DX:HR is superior to the original. That should do it.

IW? Don't bother. I can't think of many good things to say about it.
SS1. I've played a little bit of it, and I could easily see why so many people thought it was cool back in the day. But it's one of those games you had to experience during its prime to get the most out of it.

Really? I didn't get to play it until I found an original copy at a pawn shop around 3 years ago. Loved it. It's still an amazing game today and coming at it years later as a complete newbie didn't diminish it at all for me.
