My melee weapon only campaign -- new walkthrough pages available! - by TheNightTerror

Brain's overheating a little, so before I cool it down with a healthy amount of alcohol, I just thought I'd mention the progress I made. I've gotten all of the early New York walkthroughs online, and I've also completed a lot more than that, but none of it's online. HTML coding requires some concentration, but I'm too tired of thinking to think anymore. Not to mention for me, too much thinking results in too much drinking.
Once I've woken up tomorrow I'll work on getting the rest of the walkthroughs online, I've completed everything I know of up to the first return to New York mission (the last time in Hell's Kitchen), but I haven't started on the Naval Base yet. Just so you know what all will be up eventually. :)
Edit: :joke: or not. I got the HOng Kong stuff up. I'll put the remainder of the New York stuff on its own page once it's all done. If you notice anything I left out in my drunken state, let me know, kay? :thumb: Thanks guys. :)

About the ground rules:
I think it's safe to say that the crowbar is a melee weapon...

:wot: It's amazing the things I can forget. I'll fix that during my next update. I'd do it now, but I've got to get my laptop fully backed up before I do anything else. Apparently it could die any moment, even though it seems to be running just fine. The walkthrough's going to go on without the laptop if necessary, though. It just may take a while.

TNT: I just completed DX today (all 3 endings :P) on melee only, realistic difficulty. I gotta thank you, your guide came in handy on more than one occasion.
To be honest, I found it more challenging than normal, but it was still a cakewalk. This was only my second time through the game, but I completed it in just under 15 hours compared to 25-30 hours the first time (over a year ago).
I guess my next challenge is Invisible War, but that will be even shorter lived :( Where's my DX3 with expansive urban landscapes, true character AI and interaction, faction-based gameplay, multitude of useful augmentations, skill system and intricate character creation? WHERE?!?
Anyways, I'll recap my adventure later tonight and see if I have anything I could add in terms of hints. Right now, I gotta split... It's feeding time :sly:

:D Thank you!! :thumb: I didn't expect to hear anything resembling a compliment on a half completed walkthrough. :D I <i>really</i> need to get the damned thing finished. Weird . . . just looked at it, and it seems as though the section on the Wall Cloud isn't online, but I know I finished it. I think I stopped after I finished the graveyard mission.

Yeah, it wasn't quite as hard as I thought it might be. But, it was still a bit tricky, you had to be fairly stealthy until you got the Dragon's Tooth Sword. After that, it was fine.

Hey, if you have any tips to share, let me know, I'd love to hear them. I'll add it to the walkthrough and credit you, of course. I actually haven't attempted all 3 endings on a melee only game, so if you have any specific tips regarding that, I'd be in heven. :):thumb: Actually, it's looking more and more like the walkthrough will probably be restarted soon. My laptop's been "repaired," (aka, the problems it was having are as bad as they were when I first noticed it, but not as bad as when I sent it away) and its heat issues have resided.
I played it for a little while the other day, got up to Hong Kong in one session, and it was completely fine. Got hot, but not so hot that I smelled burning. :erm: I think I'll start another melee only campaign, start writing the walkthrough again once I reach Paris, and go from there. Or, maybe I'll finish my current rifle happy campaign, (just so I can refresh my memory on where you need to go in Paris) then start a melee only campaign. Either way, there oughta be something new online sometime soon. :erm:

Once you get low-tech weapons maxed out, the dragon's tooth, and a maxed out speed augmentation... the fun really begins.
Are you on MSN TNT? If so, add me to contacts alushe1011@hotmail.com and I'll try to get something written down at some point, maybe a melee only tag team playthrough of SS2 could be in order sometime :ebil:

I do have MSN, but I'm online once in a blue moon. You pretty much have to tell me to go online before I will. E-mails work well. I just added you, though, excuse the odd sign-in name. ;)

I wondered if your rules allow you to use Throwing Knives and Explosive Barrels to take out the weld points?
TheNightTerror on 5/5/2005 at 08:20
I know throwing knives are technically low tech weapons, but I don't use them ever. As for the TNT, that was actually how I planned on taking out the weld points as a last resort. Meaning, I was only going to use them if melee weapons wouldn't do the trick. Make of that what you will. ;)
