Yes, get to the doctor sooner rather than later. Chances are you'll at least get some good pain meds out of it. (Note: take these meds with those beers on that empty stomach only if you want further accidents and injuries!)

As a matter of interest and just to answer a question about something that's been puzzling me for many years, if you go to see a doctor about your thumb, do you really have to pay? And if so, how much? If that's not too personal a question. Do you have to pay every time you see a doctor? And if you do, are there circumstances when you don't have to? What if you're a child?
If you went to A & E - or ER I think you call it, do you have to pay then? And I've seen 'ER' and people seem to get treated without having dosh but then that's telly and I'm no good at remembering the details. But what happens if you don't have insurance?
And it does look a tad on the sore side - and I also agree about the anaesthetic qualities of beer - but find gin much better for very sore backs. :)

I think technically they are supposed to help you regardless of whether or not you can pay for it, at least in emergencies. I don't think you often see people getting outright turned away, but they do their best to make you pay for it (and if its the ER and you don't have insurance, pay for it you shall).
Thats the way its supposed to work. Seeing Sicko was pretty depressing seeing what some hospitals did to homeless people, but I prefer to hope that that is fairly uncommon.
The medical culture over here feels really caught up in money which is sad.
