Arx PC v.1.17
**NOTE - I've decided to put the latest exploit into the title, so you'll know when I've updated this.**
Finally, something that isn't a bug!! It's my ventures into places I shouldn't be.
I used two main methods for getting to these places;
Firstly, a simple, yet very slow, method for making better use of the levitate spell. Everyone keeps saying to jump and then cast, or find something to stand on. Those are good, but if you are in a large room with non-linear walls (meaning not straight), there is a better way. get as high as you can (it's just quicker) and cast levitate. Move towards a wall, and keep pressed against it until you find a sloped section. Use the slope to slowly move you upwards. Also, in certain spots, you can press Jump (while levitating), and you will go a little higher. WARNING - This is a HUGE drain on mana, so make sure you have plenty of potions and mana. Consider yourself the sorceroress from Diablo 2 LOD!
The second method I use is to simply exploit the game engine. Make it snuff it so badly, that strange and unknown things result. I usually achieve this with a simple entity overload. Put too much into a level, and something has to give eventually. I've found either one of four will happen. One, the game simply won't handle it, and will crash. Two, your graphics card won't handle it, and will either give up or you'll get an absolutely shocking frame-rate. Three, your CPU won't keep up, and as a result, your system will become unstable, and who knows what could happen then... Four, the game engine will start to behave strangly, which is the one you want.
From an item overload, In Arx Fatalis alone, I've experienced items disappearing, actors disappearing, doors disappearing (common), textures being replaced, inabilty to use your weapons, cast spells, or even open a book, strange game physics (good sign that you may be able to get into strange places), and certain items where they shouldn't be (BAD, VERY BAD).
Ok, now that that is all said, here are some pictures of some places I have managed to get to (I'll keep updating this as I play);
----------------------------
For this I used only the levitate trick;
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_180049.JPG) Mission : To see where the carrier buckets go in level 8
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_180121.JPG) First step : Get to platform with broken container (levitate)
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_180247.JPG) Next : get on container
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_180229.JPG) Hmm, where am I going from here..?
Now, levitate. I forgot to get a shot of it, but you will have to wiggle around on the walls for a bit to get a little more height before you can actually get to the next one
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_180026.JPG) Hey, I'm there.
(P.S. The reason you can't see that container that should be infront of me is every surface that can't (I mean
shouldn't) be seen, has been given a null brush texture.)
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_175937.JPG) Now then, what's back here... Oh....
----------------------------
For the next one, you'll want to be on level 6. Sorry about not explaining this one too well, it just took me hours to figure out, and I can't remember how the hell I did it. I'll work it out again some other time.
Again levitating (this took one hell of a lot of mana potions... Just warning you if you plan on trying this.)
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_214008.JPG) Mission : To get up to the top of that structure
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_212420.JPG) Levitating up the wall...
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_212240.JPG) Phew, on one of the curved edges about 3/4 way up
The next step was to just keep going up the wall. Keep going, nope further. No, more. Uh uh, don't stop. It's further than it looks.
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_213952.JPG) And here we are...
Stupidly, I didn't take a picture of what is up there! Guess you'll have to find out yourself!
----------------------------
This next one came to me after doing the previous one. When you get to the top of that buiding, you are VERY close to the ceiling, and it made me wonder if I could overload the level. I only took a couple of shots, but I will do this one better in the next few days (time permitting), and show exactly what I did. But for the mean time;
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_212919.JPG) How did I get up here?
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08252005_213604.JPG) A very strange place to be
----------------------------
This next one will take a while to get right, don't expect to do it the first time round. Then again, you might be lucky, who knows. This requires only a lot of mana (and potions), and a the ability to cast levitate (or at least 5 scrolls). NOTE - when I say you need to check your height against mine, make sure your view is centered.
For a start, you will want to be in level 5, in the very last room of the entire game.
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_000214.JPG) Mission : To get on top of the level. (and I really mean on top)
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_001757.JPG) First, run up one of the slopes at the front. I suggest the one on the right, as you won't get confused in that way.
When you have run up as far you think you can get (a bit of jumping and moving around will be needed), you will need to turn your back to slope (so you are now facing the wall the door is on), cast levitate, and move backwards until you stop, then take off levitate. When you turn around, you should be right up against a wall, and the crosshair should be somewhere around here;
(
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_010919.JPG) Crosshair height
Now cast levitate again, and float around the corner and onto the steps. Walk to the top of the stair case (if everything goes black, you've gone to either side, move back to the centre or this will not work), face away from the yellow thing (?) and jump and press backwards at the same time. You should find yourself sort of stuck a little way off the steps. If not, keep trying. You need to do this in order to get the height for the next step.
Cast levitate again (see why you need so many mana potions now..?), and float back around the same corner you just came from, and go (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_003939.JPG) here . Once you get onto that (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_004008.JPG) slope , walk up it (you can take off levitate), until you get to the top. Now comes a lot more jumping and moving around. You must get to AT LEAST (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_011528.JPG) this height (view is centered don't forget)
Almost there now. Next you want to levitate AGAIN, and go back above the steps, until you come to (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_004707.JPG) this. You want to simply float up it, and once on it, you can take off levitate. WARNING - DO NOT WALK ON THE CENTER PIECE. YOU WILL FALL BACK DOWN. Next bit's easy, (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_004744.JPG) walk up.
Once you are at the top, get as close to the (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_004918.JPG) edge as possible. Now look over and see that (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_011414.JPG) curved section in front of you. You are going to have to do a bit guesswork here. You will have to cast levitate, and float around to the back of it and float up it. This may sound simple, but when you get there, you'll notice everything will be black for a while. Just keep looking at your minimap, you'll be fine.
Once you float up that last slope, you'll find yourself outside of the actuall map. Congratulations. You have managed to to get where you're not supposed to be, and all without cheating. You can (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_004856.JPG) walk around up there, but be careful, there are still places you can fall and either drop back into the map, or get completely stuck.
----------------------------
I'm not going to bother explaining how I got to this next one. Just float around the room a bit. There are plenty of places to climb higher up.
Although you can't see it too well, I'm (
http://members.iinet.net.au/~greystroke/Arx/Capture_08272005_021633.jpg) on top of the waterfall
As I said, I'll keep updating this as I get into more stupid areas.
