IOMG! I was actually told that I would have "fit right in" with the ComChat of five years ago (but not now) because it was a nicer place back then! Hellooooo .... anybody else see anything wrong with that picture?? Sure....the world's not a nice place, but that's RL..........this is TTLG. There's nothing wrong with constructive feedback or flaming done in fun, but some threads in ComChat carry it to unpleasant extremes.
You have to understand this is a complicated issue. Most of us have had our comings and goings with the forums. We all have personalities and we all change moods and opinions. The events of the past few years, I feel, have had quite an effect on everday life in general and these changes have been felt on the boards through discussions that were raised after 9/11, iraq, london bombings, etc. These have been more potent than your usual "lol republicans suck" political debates because they are affecting people in these forums and out of them too - hence a large amount of the real-life effects have filtered into our collective subconscious at ttlg.
At the same time, there's a certain dynamic that's separate from real-life that's tied in with the existing population of community chat and our length of service (haha), which feeds into a distinct pecking order and circlejerk jokery which is unavoidable in a community. There are bottom feeders and trolls, there are idiots and buffoons, there are hypocrits and liars, there are wise and knowledgable posters, there are smartarses and wits, there are the oft silent and the never silent. These create the dynamic that inhabits Community Chat and a lot of people (this is a serious comment and happens all the time with new posters) mistake what could be termed as nastiness as banter between ironic posters who know what they mean... people sometimes focus in on a word or a tone that they don't like and just run with it. Also, there's been a tendency of late for people to harbour grudges rather than let bygones be bygones... I don't know what to say of that. Certainly, there are posters who are so persistant and dogged that I feel like punching them sometimes, but such is life and ttlg.

It's refreshing to visit other forums on this site after what I now consider to be a hazardous venture into ComChat. The moderators on the other forums seem to have an honest respect, not only for the TTLG posting rules, etc., but also for the members that post within those forums. In ComChat, I don't believe I've ever seen a moderator try to moderate at all in certain threads that obviously need
someone to call off the dogs. In fact, some admins seem to be the worst offenders at breaking some TTLG posting rules & regulations.
Now ask yourself WHY the rest of the forums are pleasant places to be. It's not because Dave and I don't pay any attention to them (or actively moderate a couple ourselves).
I'll give you a hint: Without CommChat, every forum would be CommChat. All successful website forums have realised this at some point in their operation. It's loads easier to maintain decorum in the other forums when we can point to CommChat and say "Take this shit in there, and good luck with the regulars who are much better at it than you are."
This place ain't run by monkeys, sugar. We like to have what do you call them...
reasons for doing things.

I reckon this thread has now got silly enough to be moved into ComChat.

By one person. Though we was right, you would have done. This doesn't, however, preclude fitting in now. It does annoy me when accusations of elitism are made that are unfounded. It really doesn't matter how long you've been a member, what matters is what you contribute. If you're a worthwhile, interesting poster then your reg date is meaningless.
By the way, you're not the first ELITISM MARTYR, there have been several. Some have actually carried on posting just how they wish in CommChat and GOSH, they aren't excluded or "censored" (lol, how are people being censored?) in any way, they've been "accepted".
It would seem like (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1342983#post1342983) this thread has soured you on CommChat. I'd like to take this opportunity to say that the thread starter, apart from being a giant penis, is pretty much unknown in CommChat and, as such, totally doesn't represent the majority opinion. Basically, you shouldn't take the opinions of one or two people to heart so.
Anyway, I just looked at all your posts (lol stalker) to see where things had gone so badly wrong and you seem pretty cool. So I, for one, hope you keep posting in CC. :)

Okay........everybody has bad days.......maybe I was a little harsh. I have read threads (in ComChat) wherein the moderators were definitely active (i.e. Supermario's) and I do admit to having a lot of fun in a few threads which ran amok (yeah, even the ones where I got my pants flamed off!). I'm not a martyr - definitely too sassy, stubborn, and egotistical to be called that. I guess it's more ego than anything that made my head explode. I'll work on that. (You STILL need to add a word of caution after "Come on in!" :cheeky: )
GBM had a good point.......I shudder to think what the Thief forum would become if it were like ComChat......... (Sugar???? Hint: (even though I know it was meant just a tad sarcastically) my husband calls my children "Spawn of the Devil Woman", but thanks anyway! lol) Thanks for the encouragement, D'Juhn. Like I said, there are a lot of threads which I find interesting, so I guess I'll keep coming back in spite of myself! (I don't think maloo is a giant penis, though. I kinda admire him for having the guts to object in the first place and he does have a point.)

I just thought it was because the moderators in the other forums were holding you at bay with sharp pointy sticks and pitchforks.... :laff: (That's about as severe a flaming as I'm capable of so far...........sad, isn't it??)

For the sake of clarification, I think maloo was not the object of the genitalia-related comments, rather the poster of the thread Iggles linked to.

okay.

Do like me. I've never visited ComChat and I've never been happier;) Best for me to stick to the FM and Editor's forums where extreme opinions seldom occur. I'd be eaten alive elsewhere.
As for the elitism... I've been a member quite many years but it hasn't given me any advantage whatsoever.
My bucks worth. Happy dabating to you all:ebil:
