SERIOUS BUSINESS

I don't know how new this trend is. I registered about a year ago, and one of the first things I was told was that CommChat was a harsh place to be.

Which is why I felt that this thread belonged in Thief FMs, my post was specifically meant for there, and I feel the original poster intended just that too.
Everyone knows CommChat is a free for all, and all the better for that:devil:

And those who wish they were cool :(

When you reach pensionable age in the UK you get a pink card to prove it. Mine certifies that "Freddy Fox is entitled to a Retirement Pension" (which provides a concession rate in theatres, brothels, and similar establishments).
Last week, in the supermarket, the cashier noticed my pink card and said "Oh, I see you've got your Moaner's Licence"!
I can't remember puberty (or much else, to be honest) but be very afraid - we wrinklies have you pubescents outnumbered. We are honing our hostility, and have paperwork to back it up. :p
:laff: :laff: liked this one!
BTW....i am for the ignore principle. i find that if you don't pay attention, it kinda ruins the impact!

It took me a while to get over the harshness of the thief forums, but now I just ignore the "know it all jerks," unless of course they are funny and tell me what I want to know.

OK, if you have such a problem, look at what you use to wipe your ass/arse.
Now look at the people around you.
If you cannot tell the difference, please kill yourself.
I'm not kidding, we have enough real problems without your crap.

I have noticed on the different boards lately that some of our members are a bit hostile. ....Cummon guys, remember what the old saying, if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all....
I most definitely agree with maloo! The flaming, sarcasm, cynicism, and downright elitism seems to manifest mostly in ComChat and I hardly think the newer members can be blamed for this. I just posted (in jest, really) a suggestion in a ComChat thread that the welcoming words after ComChat be amended from "Come on in!" to a dire warning to new members (you know; "Enter at your own risk" or something similar.) "Newbies" are repeatedly and outrightly discouraged from posting, voicing their opinions, and just attempting to participate in certain threads there, period. OMG! I was actually told that I would have "fit right in" with the ComChat of five years ago (but not now) because it was a nicer place back then! Hellooooo .... anybody else see anything wrong with that picture?? Sure....the world's not a nice place, but doesn't mean TTLG has to become some sort of exclusive club for those who've been members for more than two years. There's nothing wrong with constructive feedback or flaming done in fun, but some threads in ComChat carry it to unpleasant extremes.
It's refreshing to visit other forums on this site after what I now consider to be a hazardous venture into ComChat. The moderators on the other forums seem to have an honest respect, not only for the TTLG posting rules, etc., but also for the members that post within those forums. In ComChat, I don't believe I've ever seen a moderator try to moderate at all in certain threads that obviously need
someone to call off the dogs. In fact, some admins seem to be the worst offenders at breaking some TTLG posting rules & regulations.
When did being a new member become such an anathema??? Call me idealistic, but since when did this kind of censorship become "cool" or "savvy"? I can handle being flamed and there's no self-pity here in the least. It's just so damned frustrating to be told repeatedly to "LEAVE" and "GO AWAY" and just plain discouraged from participating in interesting threads ....... and no, I'm definitely not the only new member to be discouraged in that manner....... No wonder some newer members either resign themselves to visiting the game forums only or just stop visiting TTLG altogether. It would be great if the more experienced members could adopt a more tolerant attitude towards new members. Please don't misunderstand: there have been a few "older" members who've taken the time to gently (and yes, nicely) explain the "way of things" in ComChat to newer members. But it seems that those explanations were only a means to discourage further participation by new members. Hostile attitudes? That's an understatement!
P.S. ThiefGen is NOT dead! It's just a nicer place to visit..........
