Er... anywhere more specific? I haven't been able to find any note or hint to it. Maybe I'm just terribly oblivious.

It's been a while since I played this one.... An excellent mission by the way.
I finished in on Expert as well. As I remember, there is a note describing a "bad smell" in the servants quarters where you slash the banner and find the skeleton (or body). Somehow it's part of the overall story. Sorry I can't be more specific.
I think there was a needed key or something on the body, needed to get into another area.
Use the search button to find more info on Mystery Man....one of my favorites.

Right, but that's a different thing altogether. I'm fully aware of the body in those quarters (since it's already been spoiled), but the skeleton I'm talking about is behind a banner in the *main library*.

I know which skeleton you mean and I really don't remember seeing anything in the mission that explained why it was there.

I -think- that's what's left of the Mystery Man's mortal frame. I don't remember reading anything abou that, though.
Then again, he's the "Mystery Man"! The things he does, are a mystery!

Hi there taffers =)
Just got through playing this great FM for the first time and am now looking through the forums for stuff I might have missed. I started this mission on expert and got just past the main lobby into the library - then I had to start over on normal! I dont see how its actually possible to beat this mission on expert! How can you survive the onslaught?
Anyways - this is in regards to the afore mentioned skeleton:
The skeleton in the main library is one of the nobles from the dungeon... along with the head behind the banner near Talbot's room. This is referenced by reading the journal on the desk in the dungeon - referring to the nobles 'in our walls' or something to that effect. It explains who they are - but not exactly why - any ideas?
Hey taffers,
Just finished this awesome (albeit older) FM on normal. AFTER starting over from expert. On Garret level, I got to the library and just ran out of ammo and life - I couldnt kill, BJ and/or sneak past ALL those guys, it was too much. Finishing on expert seems impossible to me! There are some areas that are IMPOSSIBLE to sneak through.
I read where some of you were able to just fight the guards without sneaking. That is not my preferred way of playing Thief, mainly because I find it so hard to fight the guards - especially with the numbers and toughness they have on this FM at expert.
I'm a pretty good taffer when it comes to sneaking, finding loot and solving puzzles - I try to finish all my FM's on expert if possible and this one is really humbling me!
So my question is:
How did you do it?! How do you fight all those tough guards? Is there some special trick I don't know about that makes it easy? Or do I need to go back and play keeper's training and actually learn to fence, block, parry and riposte that guard in the keeper's compound?
Thanks in advance :D
Some guards can be avoided, like the one standing in front of the picture gallery (as you know by now, there's a secret entrance inside).
There's a slightly dirty trick to easily handle the guards without having to fight them. It's sort of abusing Thief's game mechanics, so don't read further if you don't want to be spoiled on that:
Ready your blackjack. Find a place nearby where your light gem goes totally black. Hop up and down or hit an object with your blackjack to get the guard's attention (but don't make him see you), then wait in the dark spot for him to approach. When he's getting closer, lean forward and raise your blackjack. When the guard's close enough (still looking for you), release the blackjack, *thump* Getting the timing right needs some practice, but after that it almost always works.
