Before you read the book, go down to the end (it doesn't matter which one) of the walkway and you'll find a hole down to the lower floor. Above the hole, the ceiling is wood. Put a rope arrow in, then go back to the book. If you're playing on a setting where you have the invisibility potion, get it ready, if not, a speed potion here helps. Read the book, gulp the potion, then take off for the rope. Climb down and get as far away as possible in the shadows, before the bad guy comes down after you. (If you have the invisibility potion, sometimes you get lucky and he doesn't see you at all, then you can just sneak back up the stairs behind him and backstab him.) Let him settle down, then creep over and backstab him. You'll have to hit him once or twice more, but that's it and he's dead.
ps: I got more questions and nice comments on Lord Matt today. This is GREAT! You spend all this time writing a mission and hope it won't be boring and hated. Then some folks like it and you say - "WOW". It is a nice feeling.

I tried your method and was able to hide enough so that when he saw me, I was able to give him an overhead first. Took 3-4 more hits to get him. Of course, I had to reply 5 times to actually get it right.
Thanks

Definitely OM quality if you ask me. It's hard to believe the file for this FM is only 4mb. Plus, even with a shipload of guards walkin' around, it ran smoothly. I ended up with two piles of guards and servants. One pile had 42 AI and the other had 20 or more and this isn't even counting the AI you can't move after dispatching.
Cut your fingernails before playin' this one as you'll be scratchin' your head alot!

Not to mention you'll be running a lot from creepy things. This is one of my favourite T1 FMs. The story has an excellent buildup of suspense until you actually face the Mystery Man.

I never would have finished this FM if it were not for the posts here (could not find one of the keys).
Overall it is an excellent mission. Great story, great gameplay and interesting thoughout. it is a little frustrating when you get stuck which you will. Great ending but very difficult.
Definately one you do not want to miss. If you get frustrated, search here and keep on playing.

So, guys and dolls, in the Mystery Man FM, in the big main library (and this is on expert difficulty), if you slash a tapestry that's a bit high up on the wall, there is a sort of passageway you can mantle up into. In this little passage/room, there's a standing skeleton... and nothing else I can find.
So... what is that all about, eh?

if i remember correctly, there should be notes/stuff to read around the place that would tell you who the mystery skeleton is
