Sounds like you're having fun!
The Masamune is a holy sword, use it to tear the Zombors into pieces. For the Dark Minions, they HATE light... so a flashbomb will knock them out.
Faraiwe on 10/7/2002 at 00:31
What if you happen to NOT have those????? Does that mean it's undo-able?
doaal on 10/7/2002 at 00:52
No I think you'll be ok :)
The Masamune can kill Dark Minions and the Zombors! And you have the Masamune from the start. But the Minions are especially sensitive to bright light
Yeah, I am leaving the parchment for LATER.... Nifty stuff at Alexei's First Room =) Tesla ain't got shtick on that guy, huh?
do you take any damage if you remain inside that liquid-aura-glowing-field-that goes gloob-gloob-gloob? it seemed like moving thru Jell-O
I dunno if I am so eager to get inside that Eastern Tower anyhoos =P at least till I whet my fangs with those THINGS.
Btw, Masamune as in the great Toshio or any reference to any of his swords?
Hm! 1)the doors at the base of the stairs in the main hall.... only guards seem to be able to open them, but the guards are on "forced rest". I've tried half a thousand ways of frobbing, picking, keying, even banging on them, and they won't open. Do I need guards for this? 2) Air Amulet?! This IS to be used inside the Western Tower, isn't it. 3) There seems to be no Mortimer among the guards KO'ed, along many skylights. Damn it is HARD to find keys here. 4) ach! no wood to cling from, I miss vine arrows from Thief2. The fake jewel, what a b*tch =P 5) The Corpse Head was a nice touch. Wtf was it doing so close to people's quarters?! 6) the fireplace in the upper floor, before the hottub (LOOT!!!!)... no switches inside, yet a section of the wall highlights. Active imagination, bug in the game, nervousness or wishful thinking combined with all the above? 7) this mistery man guy is gonna spend a fortune in tapestries after I leave =D
One Game to Rule Them All, One Game to Find Them and in The Darkness BLUNDGEON Them =D
(Sorry, Prof Tolkien....)

I don't remember having any problem opening any of those doors, but I can't remember if I had a key for them or not. I'll go and see if I can jog my memory.
As for the fireplace,
when you go inside, look above your head for a lever.
That will get you on the way to finding more keys. :)

Now I'm really confused!
The doors at the base of th stairs in the Main hallway? All the doors in the main hallway open without keys or lockpicks. They're not locked! I checked the ones on each side at the bottom (I leads ot a storeroom and the other to a hallway). I checked the ones that open off of either side wall, 1 which leads to the hallway that the Art Gallery opens onto and the other to the guard's dining room. I also checked the ones at the top of the main stairs, which also open. Maybe we're not talking about the same set of stairs?
The Talisman of Air
isn't used in the Western Tower, but you'll figure out where to use it long before then. You have to find all 4, by the way.
Faraiwe on 10/7/2002 at 19:31
The Main Hall, after the Guard's Mess Hall, has a landing of stairs. That is the one I am talking about.
Under those, two colums. behind these colums, there are two somewhat golden panels. They OPEN when guards get near them, but they won't budge for you. Really odd, innit? I wonder what's behind. Unless I can figure out a way of opening it, I'll create a way of attracting guard(s) to open it. Problem is, the ones still on their feet are at the Front Door, all EIGHT of them, and I don't see myself as Errol Flynn fencing eight long swords up a flight of stairs =P
Thanks for the tip =) Will try it, I KNEW I wasn't insane...YET... I might be at the end of this mission. It smacks of The Sword, in original Thief, but without Salvador Dali designing it. =) applause to doaal. I am collecting some nifty screenshots in this mission.
Oh, last moment note... the West Hedge Labirynth has a passage, two guards (already down) but the gate doesn't seem to have any device to open it, nor any switch. Does it eventually open or is it just a red herring?
Nightwalker on 10/7/2002 at 20:21
OOOHH! THOSE doors!
You need to go into the hallway right inside the front doors. Rope arrow up into the wood beams and look for a switch. :)
Faraiwe on 10/7/2002 at 20:45
Hmm.. hmmm...hmmmmmm
You mean the INSIDE Hall, where the Holy Images are, and NOT the Outside where EIGHT SWORD BEARING BRUTES await the slightest occasion to turn me into Thief Fricassé, riiiight?. I see a broad collection of Wooden Beams sloping upwards, from the top of the Entrance Hall. Who is the insane mofo who'd put a Switch THERE?!
I am right now involved in pacifying a Zombor (btw they made it into my list of me-like-not , right under Frogs). As soon as I am done, I will check that switch. Hm, I might even take a break from the Zombor dealing now, and go check that ... The nosies are wrecking my nerves, and some idiota sleeps with the racket of a Zombor growling. Astounding. Yeah. Breaktime. Switch checking...(slurps tea)
Ever had that creeping sensation that you family will turn up to be undercover hammerites and undead, trying to take you down, Hm? hm?hm? Maybe I have been playing this overmuch.
