As far as I know, I have all the keys . . . which does include the Master's Key. Front Door Key, Dining Room Key, Treasurey Key, and the Upper Floor Key. Hmm . . . I don't know what all you need to know, but as far as I can tell, I've been everywhere! I hope that helps!

Here's the answer to the plate:
You need to put Alexei's gold plate in the kitchen sink. If you hear a chime you did it properly. Go look in the dining room now. Water talisman and sceptre are down there.
Check the "main" library on the first floor. There should be an office on the opposite side of the treasury with a switch that opens the bookcase. Go in there and find the throne room. Look veryyyy carefully in there. For a spoiler highlight:
Check behind the throne, you should find a lockbox. Use the master's key on it and the other bookcase you just passed will open. You have to be quick because it will close if you don't hurry. Hector's poker is in that room.
EDIT: Fixed some typos

SO I was reading thru the forum and I stumbled on a thread about new mission coming. Goodie. They mention mission before it. Hm. Must play!
Mistery Man is FUN. Map is neat-o, guards (overcoming number sis always fun), dialogues are killer (the "...so we catch them BEFORE they break IN, you taffer" "OOOOH, I see, Boss" slayed me from the almost flipping backwards sudden enlightenment the guard had.). Mad props for the use of Timed Lighting (1, 2, 3..RUN...NONONO Sneak...sneak....), and level of challenge from guard positioning.
One thing I'd like to check before I cry "wolf" or better yet ..."BUG" .
Has anyone found a secret door to Alexei's Room (Open WIndow above Storage Cot on Garden) ? The guy has everything a bachellor could dream of. Emperor Sized Bed on an elevated stand.... Personal collection of antiquities to awe babes..... thick weirdly patterned carpeting..... but he lacks the simplest of commodities... a DOOR. Does he keep an impressive stock of rope arrows? Also, the golden vase that excites that most thiev-ish virtue of ours... GREED... is nailed to the furniture and can't be picked.
Any insights on this one, fellow taffers?

Both of your questions should be cleared up if you keep playing. Neither of them are a bug.
Have fun finishing the mission. It's tough, but very rewarding.

Just so you know: That conversation was from the very first OM in T1 - Bafford's.

Cool, always makes me happy to hear someone enjoying my FM! What difficulty are you playing on? If you're playing on Normal you might want to:
Look carefully around the bathtub in that room
If not, you will eventually find Alexei's real room, in there look carefully.
Good luck!

I am officially creeped out by the Mission, congrats!
I am playing in Garrett Difficulty. No other way, man =) The sheer amount of LOOT makes eyes water and sentimental sobs shake us.
I looked around the bathtub, and found a little stub sticking out, but couldn't be frobbed or pressed..it didn't even highlited. =P
I feel this level represents a danged good challenge. One of the reasons... can't grab more Water Crystals apparently!! With some 7 or 8 extra ones, this would be way easier.
The patio around the pool is especially creepy, with the sounds from the Eastern Tower. Man, do we sweat trying to find the keys. Two guards are especially hard, in the area after the library... the lighting again plays major role and makes life HELL, but then again, what'd be the fun of doing it if it was easy.
Yeah, and Alexei's room creeped the freaking HECK outta me. I had a taste of deja vu with Trial by Night's Book =) that just makes you wish you hadn't grasped the parchment. WHAT in the name of The Great Taffer in Heavens ARE those things?!!
Deity: Really? Bafford's??? Man, I couldn't remember that..maybe it has been a tad too long since I last played Thief, other than THC, TLC and RTC. Must pay a visit to Lord Bafford
did you play "Korman" on TUT yet? someone had the spirit of putting a pile of bones and a bottle and a sign.. Here lies Lord Bafford, someone stole his beloved sceptre (that was kinda gay I guess....) and he turned to drinking to forget. lol.
LOL glad it's creeping you out! I remember someone who got so creeped out by Alexei's room that they stopped playing for a week!
Did you find the crystal shard in Alexei's room? If you did go back to the bedroom above the window at the start, and read the book. Then read it again, and again etc etc until you figure it out :)
Faraiwe on 9/7/2002 at 23:58
Yeah, I did find it, but didn't figure out a use for it, YET......
I was too busy being bothered by THINGS...and figuring out how to open the chest. (damnit where are them keys!!!!)
I can totally see someone playing a FM for the first time and getting in that room and stopping for a week. I just had to get a break for some nice hot tea here. Whew.
So... all I have to do is grab the shard, avoid being...ahn.... MAIMED..by those...things... and go to the "first Alexei's room". Hm. MAYBE I will just run like an insane man towing those things behind me, and spread general horror around the map. Yeah,.... create dievrsion, grab stuff, run for exit. Not bad =D
I will try that. =)

Holy guacamole!!!!!!!
Ok, must rethink strategy. At least I am alive and somewhat able.
THOSE THINGS CAN RUN LIKE HECK!!!!! Don't they DIE eventually?! I tried fire arrows , regular arrows and they refuse to die! Crap, are they FAST. I ran like a madman and jumped into the pool just in case. Luckily the black fast thingie seems allergic to light. Whew. Ok, I am trembling . time for another cup of tea, =PPP
2)
I just checked. No Light does not stop that ..thing... HOW DO YOU KILL IT?
