Here's the problem...

I sneaked into Alexei's room and found the scroll that spawns the two zombors. I kill the zombors, then...what do I do next? Also, where is the book that the lord speaks about...the one that only Alexei may read? I can't figure out what to do, it's such a big mansion and I keep losing myself. I just wander, waiting for something to happen.

Are you playing on Expert? If the book you're referring to is the one that's mentioned in the note in the small library, then it is only present on Expert. On other difficulty levels, it's not available or needed.

If you want more specific help, post what difficulty level you're playing on, what keys you have and what you're still missing that you need to find.

I have the dining room key and a crystal shard. I only have one objective checked, it's the one "Find out the truth behind your attempted assassination". I don't know what to do next...

Yar! I found the secret of the painting room, the secret of the fireplace (the one that leads to the prison) and the secret of the dining room! I have the upper floor key and the master's key.

I found the water talisman and the scepter, but now...where to?

You need to have all 4 talismans, so you have to keep searching for those. You also need the Treasury key, which you don't mention finding. Look upstairs in the servant's room that is close to the upstairs dining room.

Have you found the door behind the bookcase in the big library and explored behind there? You can get in now that you have the Master's key. There's a talisman to be found in that area.

Read the note in the small library just up the hall from the downstairs dining room. That's important. too. (The book is in the same room.)

I don't want to give you too much info, but if you need more specifics just ask. :)
