Chronus -
Angle yourself so you can see the "reflection". It won't be exactly the same as the room you are standing in. Make your side look like the reflection that you see.
:)

Wow this quest seems really "High tech" with washing stuff and mirror images! I'm gonna give it a try today.
By the way, I've been having reoccuring dreams about Thief, two nights ago I was having a dream about Ranstall Keep that one of those Hissing guards were chasing me around, then the other night, I'm not sure which quest it was but I was shooting arrows at a spider, and tonight I dreamt about Calendra's Cistern, am I going insane?

I need help.
Lemme see where to start.
I've gotten into the house, and I've killed/knocked uncontious about every single guard and servant in the house.
I've found the secret "room" with the door in the library, but I can't open the door.
I can't open the double doors in the outside area by the pool.
I can't open the door at the end of the stairs with the sign saying "No one allowed beyond this point"
And
I can't open the chest in Alexei's chamber.
The other rooms (as far as I know) I've been in and knocked out everything that moves.
What do I do now?

I'ts been a while since I played this one...was my first FM...anyway there are a lot of keys to find in this mission and lots of hidden stuff. Have you found a secret in the room near the "no one allowed" sign....I believe you read something about a "smell" . As I recall that got the ball rolling for me. As a general hint...look behind everything and try to think outside the box if you need to get somewhere and can't seem to figure out how.

Slyfoxx gave you good advice for this one. :)
There are a series of keys you need to find in this one to get to the end. Have you found the "Upper Floor" key yet? If not, you need to find a second floor room with a fireplace. (It's the room with a bathroom attached) and go into the fireplace and look around carefully.
If you've already got that, then you need to head to Talbot's room, which is also on the second floor and search it for a hidden button. When you've found that you'll have the key to open a lot of the doors you can't right now. This is a really fun mission and there is loot hidden EVERYWHERE! Make sure you slash everything you can and rope arrow everywhere possible to look for it.
And you are not going insane! Not unless I am too! If I play Thief a lot in the evening right before bed, I dream about climbing rope arrows and guards, too! Weird, isn't it? But then, I remember, a long time ago when we had Qbert on a game console, that I would see that stupid game bouncing around in my head at night, too. :D

Ummm.... how do I kill that skeleton faced guy on speed in the tower? He killed me before I could even respond.
Nightwalker on 16/2/2002 at 19:26
If you go down to the far end of the walkway where you read the book, there's a place with a hole down to the lower level. It has a wood ceiling so you can shoot a rope arrow up in there. Then read the book (use a speed potion, too, if you have one or an invisibility potion, though that's only available on the easiest setting), run for the rope arrow, get down as fast as you can and way over into the shadows. He'll chase you down, look for a bit, then settle down and you can just sneak up behind him and backstab him. I usually take a bit of damage but not much. :)

Thanks! I'll try it right now!
Oh, by the way, I found a way to "distract" him from me, too bad I can't kill him with arrows, and even if I could I wouldn't have enough. Anyway, if I place a gas mine right where the way up to the table with the book splits in two, then when he is summoned, he'll be walking around in that area, not attacking me or anything, so I could with a little patience pick him off with arrows..... too bad its not possible. But its a little freaky!
