My first entchantment... - by wun

well...
i thought i'd have play around with it...
since i had 3 golden saint souls in my treasure chest next to my bed.
and never done an enchantment i thought i'd have a go at it...
i figured i'll enchant my daedric katana (haven't come across a dai katana yet)
since i like the idea of using a shield and that chrysemere (sp?) thing also weighs 60kg
but it's the weapon with the best stats i got...
so anyways i went n saw the lady at the mage's guild at balmora
and gave her 11.5k of gp
now i got a daedric katana which does 50-100 pts of fire damage on strike...
got a charge of 400 and each cast costs 18.
not bad i thought... so i went for a run down the river to that cave near that
egg mine cos all the creatures in there respawn... i now can chop down those fire
and storm atr...uhm... thingos with a couple of swipes...
so i thought cool.. see what happens if i use it on a human.. the miners went down
in one chop.. so i went back to balmoral and picked on the guards...
they are pretty tough...my sword does between 55 - 144 damage (if the target doesn't resist magic) and the guards where taking a few good hits from me... might be that
they wear full armour... maybe i should cut down the max damage and also add a
disintergrate armour effect...
any opinions or comments??

A) IMO you should have gone for 75-75 damage instead of 50-100 or put on Absorb Health(only resisted by Bretons and Orcs) and not Fire Damage (which is the most resisted damage type), it can't go as high but is a lot more useful both due to the resistance and the fact that you will regain health.
B) All Dunmer have 75% Fire resistance, almost all non-Imperial legion guards are Dunmer.

I know where a Dai Katana is (snicker)
In my opinion which I am going to give you(hey you asked:p ) like WingedKagouti said go for an even damage rating instead of a 1 to ?.I like poison my self hav ing been forced to use a sword (quess which one:ebil: ) I find that you can smack the dude run off and let the poison work on him this way the rechargeing of the weapon doesnt take so long in between fights.

wun: If you're looking for an easy-to-obtain dai-katana, try the guy in the corner guard shack, the one on stilts, over at Dren's plantaion

I've only enchanted two items so far .... the first was an Indoril shield, the second a Dwarven Claymore. Back early on in the game I bought a Bonemold shield that had a restore health spell in it. I liked this so much that when i found an indoril sheild, I decided to make another one :)
And as far as the sword goes ..... afetr much plundering and selling of high priced items .. i have about 70K ... so i decided to enchant my new favourtie sword. Unfortunately the only "damaging" spell I have is a fire one ... so I made it do 20 damage (with about 70 + charges ;) ). Having read this thread I think I'll have to find some more spells to use on my next one :/

thanx forsythe for the location
*coughdamncoughsmugmumblethrangarcough* :cheeky:
the whole purpose of the enchanting thing was about me knowing how it works and having done it i...
same with the alchemy thing.. i knew how it was spossed to work.. but it was heaps better trying it... (i gotta get my health potions somehow)...
i couldn't find an absorb health spell.. (didn't really try hard.. didn't have the time this weekend)... but i did test the damage health effect... i set that to 45 - 45... worked heaps better than the fire damage... the guards went down in two hits easy...
'normal' ppl in one...
i guess another question is... should i be saving my golden saint souls (i have 2 or 3 depending on if i continue playing pre or post enchantment) for more important purposes...

my first couple of enchantments:
i don't use weapons much, i'm a custom mage type guy, so spells and rings are my forte'. anyways, i used a golden saint in a grand soul gem and took it to Falme or something like that in the Caldera mages guild (i'd rather have it done for me until i can train or get better at it myself). anyways, i enchanted an exquisite ring with damage health 75-100 points for 3 seconds. its basically an instant kill ring for most of the people i'll be fighting. (i'm only level 9 or so, and haven't even begun the main quest yet). i called it "Devils Middle Finger". it cost me 70+K but it was well worth it. i also enchanted an expensive amulet with open 75-100, which i can use when Ondisi's Open Door Spell won't work.
not too bad for a beginner, but i'll get good eventually and do it myself, save me a crapload of money.

wun: Your call, really; if you can get the Summon Golden Saint spell (Tel Branora, a mage near Therana) you can have an infinite supply of them. On the other hand, if you're not much of a spellcaster then you may want to hoard a whole bunch of grand soul gems; then, when next you kill a golden saint that you didn't summon, keep using 'soul trap' on its corpse until you've filled them all. (saints that you summon vanish on death, so only 1 soul is harvestable from them; the 'normal' ones leave corpses)
WingedKagouti on 23/7/2002 at 00:12
Can't soultrap a corpse with the patch, but if you're quick you can soultrap a creature in it's death animation after it has given it's soul by dying.
