... and they're being charged with INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER?
... Which makes perfect sense.
Involuntary manslaughter is where deliberate action is conducive to death, but death was not the express intent of said action. Just like throwing a brick off an overpass.
The term is used as opposed to voluntary manslaughter, where deliberate action is deemed to be intentionally lethal, but circumstances preclude a murder charge (crimes of passion, etc.)
Manslaughter is a damn sight harsher a charge than gross negligence, which most people seem to see as the same thing.

the suspects were unavailable for questioning as someone hunted them down and stabbed them to death.

update: both are being charged with murder in clermont county. apparently the charges of involuntary manslaughter were meant to keep them in custody in hamilton county because clermont county's grand jury was out the day of the charges. however, they're charged with that too. they're also being charged with kidnapping, felonious assault and three counts of endangering children. and david carroll is being charged with gross abuse of a corpse. they've pleaded not guilty to all of it, and if they're convicted they'll both get life in prison. bail is set at a record 10.1 million each, a record around here.
this case has caused CPS around here to completely revamp itself, because a lot of failures on the part of a lot of agencies led to this happening.

Yeah okay I know that sometimes a defendant who's not all there could plead guilty without knowing wtf is going on but I'm sure if that was the case the court would have noticed.
