To be fair, SS1 allowed quite fast turning for a keyboard-turning control scheme. I've played games with mouselook that forced you to turn around more slowly *cough*Dead Space*cough*.
DS's turning did emulate a controller's turn mode (and to an extent reality) pretty well- slow at first then quicker. It is rather disconcerting if you're not used to it though.

If you are in mouselook mode, you can look up and down in cameras. You can press enter to shoot, and it looks like you can aim a little like that.

I thought it was an easter egg / feature, not a bug?
Enchantermon on 10/2/2010 at 21:23
Maybe, I just assumed it was a bug because it allows you to completely bypass that room.

I've done it on multiple cameras, however the medical node room is the only one that was actually note-worthy. Although, I have used the sparq bean and seen some of the rooms light up, so it must bre shooting in, even if not in the direction you are facing. If I have time, I will look around with the cameras and see if I can identify some kind of pattern.

I have the feeling that the advantage this mod gives you is kind of balanced out by the fact that accessing your MFDs in the heat of battle now requires an extra step which can quickly mess you up if you're not quite used to switching modes with the E key yet. After all, there's no keyboard shortcuts for reloading or using healing items which really threw me off when I was trying out the mod in Level 1 and the game decided not to give me a Sparq beam.
Also, with the vanilla controls, using the mouse to turn actually speeds things up quite a bit. Using the keyboard to move forward, backpedal and strafe and using the mouse to turn was always my preferred control method.

The main obvious advantage is that anyone who was put off by the clunky old school control method and is used to the modern WASD mouselook scheme can now more easily enjoy SS1.
