It's not like we've be doing much better in that regard. Remember the uproar that Brian Tamaki, a religious bigot who could go toe to toe with the 'best' of them, and his idiot bretheren caused regarding the Civil Union act in 2004, which public opinion was only slightly in favour of. Lord knows what's going to happen when the 'liberal douchebags' start trying to get same-sex marriage legalised. I suspect the outcome will not be very different from what happened in California.
