After purchasing the game last week and enjoying the process of creating my character I’d be interested to know what kind of characters everyone else has created. I’m really looking for a descriptive passage rather than stats and skills something that describes your character physically as well as his out look on life and what kind of ethos he abides by.
I’ll start off with my character to give you all an idea of what I’m looking for -
Mark is a ‘lone blade’ (custom class) an individual who typifies the ‘one man and his sword’ approach to life. In his past he has like the rest of his family been trained in an ancient traditional Dumner fighting style that emphasises speed, acrobatics, and stealth as a warriors greatest defence and as such he wears only the lightest armour and refuses to use a shield viewing such an item as a sign of weakness and cowardice. Preferring to keep to the shadows Mark wears common dull earth toned clothing preferring to conceal his armour and weapons within the folds of his robes. Public displays of wealth and martial skill are an effrontery to Mark’s ethos and outlook on life - he only ever draws his blade when he is totally committed to killing his target - to draw it for any other reason disrespects his training and traditions. Currently Mark is a member of the Morag Tong the ancient Dark Elf assassin guild and has carried out many honourable kills in its name. Mark views assassination as perfectly acceptable but sticks rigidly to the code of only ever killing the target unless someone actively tries to stop him in which case he or she also becomes a legitimate target. Although skilled primarily in the use of the long blade Mark also has rudimentary skills in the magic arts of destruction, alteration, and enchantment. Magic to Mark is simply another ‘tool’ in his arsenal and this blinkered approach to magic prevents him from progressing in the arcane arts. Mark has little time for the common graces of speech and barter and when he does feel the need to speak it is in a low grating whisper which does nothing to charm whoever he is addressing causing many to view him with suspicion and sometimes out right contempt.
Obviously I got far to carried away writing my passage so please don’t feel you need to write as much – just a few lines will suffice.
Thanks for your time. :)

Cool character, Red. Mine was not quite so honorable and idealistic, I just sort of started with a clean slate and fleshed him out as I went along, so this is really describing my character through the story of my game more than anything else.
I created my own class, which I called a Taffer , but was basically a thief-type character. Feeling rather bitter and uncharitable after being kidnapped and taken away on a ship, I told Sellus Gravius and his pals to go screw themselves, threw their package in the nearest wastebasket, stole the candlesticks on the way out, and headed for the big city. I spent my formulative days in Vivec, stealing from shopkeepers, picking pockets, breaking into houses, and practicing sneaking. Slowly, I began to realise how much injustice there was around me, and moved somewhat from stealing for myself to helping others. After I had become quite an experienced (and wealthy) thief, I traveled to Balmora to join the Thieve's Guild. Doing quests for the Guild allowed me to travel quite a bit around the land. Every time I came to a new city, I would explore it thoroughly and help any unfortunate people I met before attending to my Guild duties. By this time, my Personality was quite good, so I made many friends all over. Eventually I returned to Vivec to work for the Gentleman himself. When I heard him talking about reviving the Bal Molagmer, I thought this sounded like my kind of thing, but first I worked my way up to Master Thief. Then I put on my purple gloves and went out to fight for justice in the name of the Bal Molagmer. After these quests finished, I continued for a while just wandering from place to place, stealing from the rich, giving to the poor, freeing slaves, and just generally spreading happiness and goodwill. When I grew weary of this life and felt like I had done enough, I traveled back across the wastelands to the Urshilaku camp on the north coast, which I had passed through once before on a journey. Here I joined the nomadic tribe of Ashlanders, (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51514) married the Ashlander Champion Maeli, and retired to a simple life as a hunter.
It is interesting to note that despite all I did, I still finished with zero Reputation. But I guess anonymity is a good thing for a thief. Also, I wore right through to the end the simple robe and fur boots that I stole from the shop in Seyda Neen at the beginning. Only my rings, amulet and gloves (when I started the Bal Molagmer) changed. I think there ought to be 'armor' for thieves, ie more expensive robes that hide you better, quieter shoes, good gloves for picking pockets and so on.
And yes, I do realise I missed out on quite a lot by not doing the main quest and so on. That's why I'm now going to play again with a big violent thug and do things completely different. That's what's great about this game.

Thanks entropy72 i'm quite pleased with my character and how he's coming together. Characters like yours always interest me - the ones which choose not to follow the main story line - it's good to see you can succeed in enjoying the game by choosing your own path.
I'm thinking of splitting my character's story once he becomes grand master of the Morag Tong - the first is where he simply carries on to do the main quest etc and the other is where he becomes a vampire (the very thing he hates the most) and slowly regresses into a terrible creature of darkness preying on unsuspecting city guard ;).
If i try a new character one day i might like to try a character like yours (i.e. not doing the main quest) but he would be an Argonian bent on eradicating the slavery of his race and taking revenge on any who support slavery by any means possible :ebil: .

Heh, gj entropy. I always tend to consciously or subconsciously 'retire' my characters, too. In some cases, especially when the character has had what you might call an unhappy life, I will have them commit suicide out of despondency. Also whenever my Reputation is high (a la Kurt Cobain). :)

For background: I made a female breton custom mage type.
Feeling disoriented and confused after getting off of the prison ship, Raileen wandered around Seyda Neen trying to decide what to do with herself. She is a very serious and studious person. She frowns upon stealing and, not being endowed with a strong back, she dislikes any physical activities.
After helping out the people of Seyda Neen by finding their tax collector's body and bringing his killer to justice and destroying the smuggling ring just outside of the town, Raileen decided to travel to Balmora to see what it offered (she still didn't know what to do with herself). On the way she witnessed the death of a mage who fell from the sky. It was a moment that changed her life. She read the dead mage's journal and was intrigued by his passion for his research and diligence in striving towards his goal. Not to mention that if his plan had worked it would have been a really cool way to travel. It was then that she decided to pursue a career in Magicka.
Upon her arrival in Balmora, Raileen immediately signed up with the Mage Guild. She began to learn the ways of spell casting and as she got further along in her studies she discovered a dark side of her. She became facinated in the power of destroying things with magic. She also found she needed an income since the guild does not pay well. Raileen decided to take another specialization in alchemy so she could sell potions to add gold to her pockets.
All in all, she enjoyed researching and questing for knowledge while working her way up the ranks in the guild. Her favorite missions were the ones where she visited the mysterious Dwemer ruins scattered throughout the land. She is currently at the respectable ranking of Wizard. Like her fellow guild members, Raileen hates the current head of the guild, Trebonius. She thinks she would be a far better guild master. Her current goal is attaining that coveted position.

Rather than some long drawn out paragraph or two stating out the 'ideals' and 'morals' of Tuco, I'll sum it up in one sentance:
My character is the guy who kicks the asses of most everyone he meats... the exceptions being fine ladies.

I'm on my third character so far. My first was a Nord warrior/rogue, and then I went with a Breton Slayer (custom class). Now I'm an Imperial Slayer.
Governing attributes: Strength and Agility
Major Skills: Long Blade, Block, Armorer, Light Armor, Marksman
Minor Skills: Mysticism, Axe, Sneak, Security, Mercantile
I chose the sign of the Steed so it wouldn't take me so damn long to walk everywhere. I got sick of taking like 2 minutes to get from Caius Casades' house to the Fighters' Guild. Plus, if I'm getting my butt kicked, I can just run away. So far, I've found Fargoth's stash and taken it to his creditor while at the same time courting Fargoth's favor by returning his ring (thereby getting better prices at the tradehouse). I've also done the Processus quest, turning in the found money and killing his murderer to get the 500 drakes, and giving the ring back to the lighthouse lady. Then, I cleaned out the Addamasartus cavern and freed the slaves. I'm now in working on the first quest for the Balmora Mages' Guild; I had the bad fortune to run across the bandit in the Bitter Coast region, and he smoked me pretty easily.

Heh, if I made as detailed a storyline as Sammich's, it'd probably cover 30 pages =D
