It was working and all of the sudden it stopped. So I re-installed it and patched. (DDX fix wont do a thing prepatched or not) Put all DX9 files in my DX 11 (like I said it worked fine before) and now all I get is the splash screen and this is the problem.

My system ATI 5700 series (New) E6800 Core Duo 2X3ghz , 4GB ram Windows 7 Pro.
Please help. I am ussualy good at this but here I am stumped Like I said..nothing has changed as far as hardware or software since it wos working fine on before. For what its worth the movies wont play in my Windows Media player and they always did before. All I see is colors or whatever visual effect I have. I do hear the sound of them though but some will not play at all.

Here's a probably too simplistical suggestion. Have you tried replacing Thief2.icd with a fresh copy of the file? Oh, nvm, I see that you have.
Still along the same line of questioning...
How is the life status of the HD in question? Does it come up with bad blocks on any regular basis? My c: drive was and often things would have the occasional hiccup. Sometimes I'd rename a file I knew to be bad rather than delete it, and then add a replacement of the file, so the HD would put it in a differnt spot on the HD.
As I said, very probably a too simplistic suggestion, but you never know...

Well,
According to the crash info, the DLL file "umxsbxw.dll" caused the crash. I searched the net and this file belongs to a software suite called
Personal Firewall. Do you have this software installed on your system and if so have any changes been made to it recently?
First thing I would try to do is either disable or uninstall this Firewall program, then see if thief2 works.
Furthermore, if this IS the firewall program then I'm wondering why it would need to load itself within the thief2.exe process. To be safe I would also scan for trojan/malware. Start with finding this dll on your system (using the "search for files ..."option) and see how recent it is. Then use a good malware scanner/remover like malwarebytes ((
www.malwarebytes.com) --free).

Thanks Elkston...I got rid of the damn firewall and the game started up. Whoo hooo. What a site to see. Thief 2 on my PC again.
I had a virus some time ago..the one that installed a AV/Firewall shity software on my PC. It wouldnt let me online or play thief..maybe that is what happened. I tried thief while I had it and it probably infected Thief somehow. Good old restore and a CA Trust software search got rid of it but Thief never worked again. Untill now...Thankyou for taking the time to look that up. It dawned on me once you said what you said....off to taff...:)
