Oh, sorry. Well you mentioned 7SoM, but I didn't see a mention of them used for HI in this thread.

EDIT: I phased out the megaupload link. Use the darklurker ones instead.

If you want, we could put them on the darklurkers (darklurker.org and darklurker.com) That way you'd have two permanent copies.
Sold!
Seriously speaking that would indeed be wonderful. How much space are you willing to sacrifice to hosting these songs? Here are the most useful options I have ready:
- '16 bit, 44 kHz' wav files (size: 600 megs as a zip archive / 708 megs as individual files)
- '16 bit, 44 kHz, 160 kbps, MP3' files (size: 97 megs as individual files)
- '16 bit, 44 kHz, 192 kbps, MP3' files (size: 80 megs as individual files)
- '16 bit, 44 kHz, q5, OGG Vorbis' files (size: 66 megs as individual files)
- '16 bit, 44 kHz, q6, OGG Vorbis' files (size: 79 megs as individual files)
I'm not absolutely sure what file format especially the fan mission makers prefer. I can convert them into the most popular ones, people just need to tell me what those are. Of course, if you host the wave files people can convert them to whatever format they wish without any unnecessary loss in quality.
Even if you don't have space for all of the options, I'd be grateful if you can host at least some. I don't want to pressure you or anything. I also have a zip archive of '32f bit 44 khz' wave files that eats up 1,2 Gigs of space, but I guess hosting such a large amount is overkill. People would still need to downgrade those when converting them to mp3s etc.
Thank ye. I shall make my own account and upload the files there too.

Probably wav are most popular, as that is the format that thief uses by default for sounds/ambients. They have to be in IMA ADPCM (adpcm right, peeps?) wav files. Though I've noticed in newer FMs there are mp3s or oggs. Not sure how FM authors do that though.:o
You're welcome. Great tracks by the way. These definately would be good for a thiefy project. :cheeky:

OK. I'm downloading the '16 bit 44 kHz' wav files to be put at both sites. We've got room for the others also if they'll be used.
I think that sNeaksieGarrett is correct about the IMA ADPCM, but I thought there was more to it than that  There was something about 'mono' and somthing else...
May I suggest creating a thread down in the Editor's Guild and asking them? They're the ones who would be using them in fm's. Others of us would just want to listen to them as regular music.

you could use a better codec, say .wmv or .aac, you could get the same high bitrate but the file would be half the size and the treble would be much better for it (mp3 cuts of at 12-16khz...)

Moghedian, I was being general. Yes, it's mono and I think official thief files are 22 khz. ShadowSneaker's tracks that I converted are 16 bit 44.1 khz though.

7SoM
is HI Mission 1. I'm confused...
I agree with biker, your best bet is OGG or WMA if you want good quality and compression, instead of MP3 or IMA ADPCM (which is only 4 bit).

Well excuse me sir, I didn't know that it was called that.:o
Seriously, I thought you were talking about something else. Guess I'm silly.

Thanks for the info guys. Judging by your opinions I think it's best to host at least the '16 bit 44kHz' waves, because it's the highest quality option in a commonly used format. Everyone can then encode the songs into whatever format they like. I also talked to the Dark Mod and they said that Waves & OGGs should be the most suitable for them.
Naturally I think fan mission makers should encode the '16 bit 44kHz' waves into OGGs or whatever they prefer, because including the highest quality stuff will needlessly bloat the mission size. I'll make a thread in the fan mission section about what format they'd prefer, and if one comes as a clear favorite it could be feasible to offer the songs already in that format (for those who are not comfortable encoding the stuff themselves).
P.S. My first post now includes a link to the '16 bit 44kHz' waves hosted at darklurker. Thank ye once again guys for hosting them. :thumb:

A high-quality ogg should be enough for all non-superhero humans.
FLAC is probably the best format for digital masters. (
