Let's not draw a line around what sort of people are allowed to post on these forums, please. We should welcome anyone who is interested in having good discussions about thief, regardless of what their opinions are. If thief isn't operativex's favorite stealth game, well, it's nice to talk to people with different opinions.
Saying Skyrim is a better stealth game then thief sounds highly unlikely to me (haven't played Skyrim yet), but it's hardly the only dumb thing anyone has said on this board. If we got rid of people for believing dumb things, we wouldn't have many left!
All I'd personally like to see from operativex is the attitude toned down a little bit.

but at it's core Thief is about "crouching in the shadows and clubbing people."
In my personal opinion, anyone who refuses to acknowledge that simple truth is fooling themselves.
I must be living a lie. I don't "club" people when I play Thief.

That's not what I said.

When I go back and play through the wonderful world of Dark Project, if I find myself in any sort of confrontation, I have done something wrong. Which usually results in heart pounding excitement as I try to flee the situation as best as possible. It is worth noting that although the AI forgets about you after a while, the thrill of successfully escaping a potential scrap is an exhilarating experience that I havent satisfactorily found in any other 1st person game, before or since.

The unique way you choose to play a game (ghosting, something never really intended by the devs but rather a community invention/challenge) does not change the fundamental aspects of a game.
Just because I like crashing into other cars in Forza does not make it a bumper car simulator.

Operativex, I just used "stealth" to refer to the whole experience, so I think that is what you said.
Still, rather then just telling me I don't understand you and calling it a day, why don't you elaborate so we can all understand?

I stand by my statement that it's a better thief game than Thief. While the stealth aspect is a few notches below Thief, the loot potential in Skyrim is off the charts.
This is interesting, but vague. What parts of the thief experience are most important to you? What parts do you Skyrim does better? Would you like to see any of this incorporated into thief 4 in any way, and how?

Absolutely. Being forced to use your head and stealth instead of fighting your way out of a situation is one of the greatest features of the series. I don't like killing people in Thief, and while I don't always ghost, I try and make as little commotion as possible, knocking out ai's individually without others noticing, etc. I love it when, for instance, I have to cross through an area full of guards that will almost certainly see me no matter what I do - so I wait and think, observe the patrols, look at darker spots where I may be able to cross through undetected, and finally make my move. Thief (1, 2, 3) makes you
think before you act, and that is brilliant. The fact that you will get killed or seriously hurt if you don't have a strategy is absolute genius, and few other games can compete with Thief on that level.
Thief 4 however looks like it dumbed down the combat so you'll come out alright regardless of the situation, and that just kills the whole premise of the game.

I'm perplexed as to you why you think I'm drawing lines. This community has always been a pretty welcoming place, even for those with differing views (where is that same "welcome" for the detractors of nuthief hmm?) At any rate, I was trying to illustrate that his posts seem geared towards inciting others than "good discussion." Is it not highly suspect that someone would post on a Thief fan forum that Thief is not as good as X? That's just my opinion. For the record, I did post a message welcoming to him when he started posting. I wasn't drawing line, I was merely sharing my own view that his posts have been leaning towards getting a rile out of Thief fans.

I think you're too suspicious, but fair enough, it seems I'm too suspicious as well ... I apologize.

It's cool mang, like wise.
