He hadn't posted anything in 9 years(and he only made one post back then.) The community must have really agitated him to start him posting again.:p

Yeah. As in, 'well, if that's what you think defines a thief game, then whoah my lord is skyrim the best thief game'. Point being that isn't what defines a thief game.

Unless Ive mis-read what he/she has written, operativex is the one who has defined 'Thiefy' game play in shallow terms. I don't think there is any sarcasm when the poster uses Skyrim as an example.
Then please enlighten me what the core mechanics of Thief are.
I wish you guys/gals would think critically, as opposed to zealots that believe Thief is gods gift to man. Not even the original devs hold Thief to such a high standard and point out many of its flaws and shortcomings in interviews.

This is the reason why I prefer viewing forums rather than being an active poster, people treat forums like a high-school popularity contest. Judge the validity of my arguments based on my reasoning, not post count or join date.

This was from a guy who described Thief gameplay as "You crouch in dark corners and club people," so you can take pretty much everything he says with a massive grain of salt.
I dunno, for an eight word description, that not bad. Crouching, shadows, blackjacking ... what else would you say in eight words or less? I'm curious what different people would mention.
(And he didn't play word golf, so no bullet point lists!)

We hold it to a high standard because we like it, because for us (maybe most of us here) it's the greatest game ever made, despite whatever flaws it may have. Different people like different things. I'm sure your favourite game, whatever that is, probably has its own flaws, and yet you like it? Why's that?

Absolutely, but that doesn't mean I won't speak critically of it. My favorite game is Deus Ex which touched me the most, however I can acknowledge it's flaws and speak openly about them. I can even break it down into simple terms like I did for Thief. Obviously, they're more subtleties to Thief than what I described earlier, but at it's core Thief is about "crouching in the shadows and clubbing people."
In my personal opinion, anyone who refuses to acknowledge that simple truth is fooling themselves.
With regards to my comments about Skyrim, I stand by my statement that it's a better
thief game than Thief. While the stealth aspect is a few notches below Thief, the loot potential in Skyrim is off the charts.

As I said before, it's fine if people disagree with me. I'm not here to convert anybody. All the statements in this thread are just a matter of opinions, I wish people would remember that.

This statement is like a trekkie going to a Star Wars forum and saying Star Trek is a better science fiction series.

In my opinion, it seems like you are trying to get a rise out of Thief fans.

I'm just a gamer who has played a lot of games in my life and has allegiance to none.
