Coulda sworn we already had a thread on this, seem to remember Sulph posting about it, but my googling isn't turning up anything. Anyway, since this game is included in the latest Humble Monthly I'm probably not the only one that just started, or is about to start playing it.

So yeah it's a turn-based tactics game mixed with realtime exploration and stealth, set in post-apocalyptic Sweden.
I'm 6 hours in and really enjoying it, although as expected the XCOM-style random-dice-rolley-bullshit combat system is causing a fair bit of gnashing of teeth and swearing as well.
Here's 3 tips I wanna share with anyone about to start it:
-Play on the lowest difficulty, Normal. Really. I mean, what do you have to prove anyway? Unless you really hate yourself, stay away from the higher difficulties.
-Make a habit of fast-traveling back to the Ark often to upgrade weapons and buy supplies, even though this seems at odds with the plot, which is urgently prodding you to keep going north.
-On the map you'll see areas marked with way higher Level than you currently are. Even though you won't win any fights in these areas, you should still sneak in and grab as much loot as you can!
So, anyone else playing this already? Sulph, did you end up finishing it?

I need to get round to this. Installed it over the weekend, but got distracted by Sims 4, Ape Out and Monster Hunter World.

I guess I really hate myself. :D
So I was finding it manageable in the early going, especially because you can tip the scales in your favour with some stealthing, but I ran into a situation where I decided to try a few different approaches, and realised that whatever happened on that map, Dux was always going to miss his next shot regardless of hit %. Turns out there's precomputed lookup tables that are set every time you enter a map (hearsay, don't quote me on it). So it's kinda like XCOM that way, but kinda still bullshit. I shelved it for another day because I need to steel myself (and hate myself less? Turning down the difficulty is a good tip) for the experience.

Heh, I started on Hard too, but turned it down a few hours in. I mean, I'd assume I like hard turn based challenges, but if I really look at what the most fun and enjoyable TBS games I've played in the last few years are, they're things like Mario+Rabbids, Steamworld Heist, and Valkyria Chronicles, which are all on the easy side. I mean, I loved Invisible Inc and Into The Breach as well, but those were low on randomness, so I'm perfectly fine with them being challenging. If I fail because I didn't plan properly, that's fine. If I fail because an invisible dice roll didn't turn out in my favor, I will LOOSE. MY. SHIT.

Might want to get some Pepto-Bismol for that...

The XCOM team added an option to disable that pre-determined bullshit in the end.
I can see the reason behind their thinking, but at the end of the day it should be the player's choice to save-scum for better rolls.

Here's a handy tip for stealth takedowns: if you can't take down an enemy in one turn, use Bormin's HOG RUSH to knock them down, then you can take 3 turns to pepper them with lead from your silenced weapons! :thumb:
I'm 9 hours in now and the game is almost getting too easy, might have to turn it back up to Hard.

Just installed the game and quickly popped in to see what it's like - it looks like fun! Will give it a proper try tomorrow... Thanks for the tips you all! I got the impression that this is designed for a gamepad, or should I stick with the good old-fashioned KB+M?
henke on 5/3/2019 at 17:47
I've played with both, I'd say gamepad is slightly better, if only because I managed to mess up and tell my guys to waste AP by running straight into the open a couple times when playing with M+KB, but that hasn't happened since I switched to gamepad. :p

Finished it. 15 hours, playing mostly on Normal. It was fun, tho it did kinda drag towards the end. Intriguing story and good voiceacting by the main cast tho.
