Tori Amos version of
Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Are we talking about the acoustic version she plays on the piano? That was the first song I ever downloaded
And on a Nirvana related note, I'd take Kurt's cover of
The Man Who Sold The World over the original any day. Sorry, Mr Bowie.

my god, this illustrates a point i've wanted to make for a long time. just because people play instruments or are in bands doesn't make them musicians. i can't fathom the complete lack of musical hearing/understanding that enabled them to get the context and the main riff wrong. not to mention the guitar is flat.
plus it doesn't have the "widdly wee woooah" bit so it's useless. considering this was recorded to tape though is probably why it sounds a bit 'off'. fuck knows. fuck, actually it becomes more evident later on. that is a flat fucking guitar or somebody is using a fretless.

I'm diggin' some Lounge Against the Machine.
Some songs simply can't be covered. I've tried Lenny Kravitz a hundred times with various line-ups - you just can't do it. Aerosmith is another (not that you'd want to) that just never works out - no matter what context or instrumentation.
Simon Cowell says: "If it doesn't add anything or put a nice spin on the original, it's a waste of time." He's right.;)

Heh ... I never knew this was a cover until I heard the original. At first I thought it was such a crappy cover of Nirvana until I figured out it was actually Bowie singing (ok, it just took the first 2 words out of his mouth, so I didn't think it was a crappy cover for long). I love other Bowie songs, though.
