Yes, it's that time again, where I ask to leech of the collective conciousness of TTLG to gain some wider knowledge of some very narrow subject.
Imogen Heap.
For the last six months or so I've been madly in love with one particular CD, namely Imogen Heap's brilliant 'Speak For Yourself'. I've listened to it over and over, and probably more than what's healthy, but it's a damn good album. Now, I can clearly trace some musical influences such as Kate Bush and Kraftwerk and Laurie Anderson and Depeche Mode, but I want more. Much, much more.
For those of you that own 'Speak For Yourself' and can trace any particular song to one or several other artists, please do tell. The styles on the album are quite disparate, so I must assume they're influenced by a wide variety of different artists.
Which is why I ask.
Can you name any other artists (and preferrably songs) that sound vaguely like something off this album? Lyrical style, production style, instrumentation, vocal similarity?
Many thanks for any useful input.

I saw Imogen Heap at the V festival recently and was suprised by how good she was not knowing anything about her and knowing that half the line up at that place is made up of MOR shite I thought she'd just be another Sandi Thom type dork with an acoustic guitar. Reminded me of Jamie Lidell in the way she did her live show, whether that translates to record I have no idea.
She wasn't a patch on Richard Hawley earlier mind.

I accidently stumbled into Imogen Heap myself by mere chance, by no less that on the Jay Leno show. They're widely known for mostly playing crap, so I was completely stunned when I saw her performance. I later taped the rerun. I ripped it to an MP3 and played that one song ('Goodnight And Go') endlessly. Then I found her page on MySpace and listened to it over and over. Then I got the CD and listened to it like a completely mad person. I haven't been this excited about an artist since... well, Kraftwerk 1986 or something. But she's prettier.

I dunno, she was played on the O.C.... That will like totally kill your street cred

Probably. But had she not been on the OC, she wouldn't have been on Jay Leno. And then this thread would not have been created.

Embers of Love by (

What is the word when you try to pimp something that probably nobody else but yourself will like? Pimpsturbation?
Well, this you'll like. To this you'll dance, and if you don't dance, well, then you're no friend of mine.
It's pop. Oh, sweet merciful crap, it's pop. It's the sweetest Imogen Heap ever. It's been on repeat on my machine for the past eight weeks.
