My friend and I have played SS2 together for a long time. In the past, he alwaus hosted, because I was on a router and he wasn't. But recently, he had to setup a router too. To continue playing, we both got Hamachi and seem to have no trouble running it. But we still cannot connect to each other on SS2.
We both have the final patched version of SS2, both have the same mods installed (SHTUP, Rebirth and my own continuation of the two). And we are using the correct Hamachi IPs
I've looked online, and the only thing I found, was a post indicating that SS2 only likes to work with the first IP it finds, which in both our cases now, is our router IP. I don't know how true this is, concidering countless people seem to have been playing over Hamachi already. But I am out of ideas. Here's some basic information on both our computers:
OPERATING SYSTEM
Mine: Windows XP Media Edition
His: Windows XP Home Edition
CPU
Mine: AMD 3800+ 2.4GHz
His: Pentium 2.4GHz
MEMORY
Mine: 2GB DDR2 RAM
His: 2GB DD2 RAM
FIREWALLS
Both: Disabled Windows and Routers
On a side note, in case anyone is wondering, my own mod does not alter gameplay. It does have an altered GAM file, but we've tried playing without the altered file too, with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. SS2 is too fun to give up on =P

Sorry, I've answered this question too often, so I'll just link you to the appropriate section in the (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,61.0.html#hamachits) Multiplayer FAQ, where I wrote the answer down.
If you still can't get it to work, feel free to drop by the <a href="irc://irc.starchat.net/SystemShock">#SystemShock</a> IRC channel and ask for help.

Hmm, one question, for people who can get SS2 to work on Hamachi. When you load the multiplayer options, does your Router IP come up, or the Hamachi IP? So far, I'm still having no luck. The guide link was helpfull overall, but niether my friend nor I can connect to each other still
Oh, and I almost forgot. I did try the disabling internet trick. When I do this, it does show the Hamachi IP, but as soon as I reenable my internet, it changes back to my router IP. Very annoying

The IP shown must be the Hamachi IP. It will not work if it isn't.
How did it change? You weren't supposed to stop hosting. Just start hosting the game, alt-tab out without cancelling the hosting, re-enable the internet, and alt-tab back in. It should work that way. If not, try the firewall trick. That's much better and less work, anyway.

Yeah, I just alt-tabbed. It just didn't work. When I'd bring SS2 back up, it'd still be at the host screen, but the IP would be my router IP
I'm still working on the Firewall thing. Windows firewall doesn't let me block anything, and my router firewall lets me block ports, but it has no affect on SS2

You need a good* software firewall to do this.
* Windows Firewall definitely does not count.

I know, I never count Windows Firewall toward anything except annoyance after annoyance, even when disabled, lol. I'm searching around for a software firewall now
The Brain on 16/6/2007 at 12:41
I would suggest you to try out (
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/) Comodo Firewall. There is other software firewalls out there but I have found out that Comodo is free and best alternative to others. Since uninstalling Sunbelt's Kerio firewall and installing Comodo, I didn't have to reboot my computer so often.
So stay away from Sunbelt Kerio.
Nameless Voice on 16/6/2007 at 13:32
I've never had any trouble with Kerio Personal Firewall, and was about to recommend it; but I'm talking about the last version of KPF that was still Kerio, before it was bought by Sunbelt, and more of the features were locked out of the free version. I have no idea what the Sunbelt versions are like.

Ah, thanks. I'll give that a try. I tried Trend Micro, but even when I block SS2, it still finds my router IP and still finds and can use my router. Trend works good for viruses, but is a horrible firewall, lol
