All the thief versions and the FMs will run on Dx9, at least up to and including MSXP.
As the Brain says, you should not have a problem with DX10 either. Vista opens a whole new set of problems.
Try the things Brain has mentioned, and do a search for VISTA in all the THIEF forums as well as the Legacy. There have been a few "tweaks" mentioned that have cured some of the problems with THIEF and VISTA.
GeForce, and Nvidia cards also have had problems with running THIEF in all operating systems. You might check for those also.
A search through this forum might help also:

LOL...Thanks, Your link is were this tread started in the first place. i understood, that i had many fixes, for T2. I thought the Processor Fix, would be the best place to start. From what i understand now. i need to do the manual fix, which is what i was asking about in my very first post.
I was asked, if i had done the imagecfg. this is what my first post was about. i had finished everything, but putting the imagecfg, in the "Windows/system32/dllcache" file. I could not find this file. i let Windows Explorer, search the "Windows/system32" file, but it was not there. This was the only thing i was missing, in my very first post here. i had finished eveything else, in the ddfix. i am now back where i started. Can anyone help me find the "Windows/system32/dllcache" file? I can create this file and put the imagecfg in it. Will this work? I do not know what to do now. i know this is technical, and it may not sound, like i know what i'm doing, but i had it all done, except for this, before my post, was moved here.
Please, if u have not done this, please do not post anything else here. It is confusing enough. I just want to play the game. lol

This makes sense, even as fractured as it is. Your posts in the thief forums have a clear subject, object and logical progression.
Your post(s) regarding the "fix" don't, did not and no matter how you slice it are too disjointed and unclear for anyone to offer assistance.
If your thief questions had been as messed up as your opening post here, you surely would have been "jumped on" as severely.
Is that all guys have to do here. If u would have read the rest of the posts here. I have already said i was sorry for my original post. What else do u want me to do. Please tell me. At the bottom, i have tried my very best, to explain my problem. If this thread would have been left, where i posted it. i would have gotten my answer and been playing the game, within a couple of hours. What is the deal here. If no one knows the answer to my simple question, just say so. I said i was sorry, when i posted the first post. i did not take into account, the members of the forum who do not speak english. It was my mistake and again. I am sorry! You pick one thing, out of what i had to say, and now u want to bitch about it....come on.....this is not a bitch forum, you are suppose to be helping people, with their problems. Is this just a bunch of KIDS posting or what?

Now your post is more readable than your first one in this thread and I can understand most of it. :thumb:
Umm, did you run imagecfg at all?
As far I know you don't need to downgrade to DirectX 9. DirectX 10 includes emulation layer for DirectX 9 and that layer should be compatible with earlier DirectX versions.
You probably need to get 1.1.1 version of ddfix, however. It appears that video card manufacturers are starting to drop legacy DirectX 6 stuff from their drivers.
I know u can answer my question. I put the imagecfg in the "windows\system32" file. The readme, said to also, put the imagecfg in the "windows\system32\dllcache" file. This file is not in my computor anywhere. I am working with a new install of T2. The game has never been played. Could this be why, the file is not there? This is the only thing, i do not know how to do. If i could find the file, I could do it.
I really do not understand, why i have to take all this abuse. If they could not read my post, all they need to do is say so. I would have tried to do a better job. Like i said, in another post. i did not even think, about the members of the forum, who use translators, need full sentences, for them to work. If i had thought about it, i would have tried to do a better job, with my post. Instead, everone jumps all over me. Makes me want to come back. lol.

Strange, but I have Vista, which comes with DX10, and I can run Thief without a problem with DDFix. And it looks better than ever.

. . . you are suppose to be helping people, with their problems.
I'd like to point out that no-one is
supposed to be helping anyone. The people who do give their time and their knowledge to helping the rest of us do so freely and without charge. And we are extraordinarily lucky to have this facility.
There are many people who need help. The more lucid your post is, the more quickly and easily it can be dealt with. That is the purpose of trying to make your question as clear as possible. If people with limited time struggle to understand what you are trying to say then, yes, it will be annoying.
As to 'windows\system32\dllcache' I don't have one either. Is it a Vista thing?

That "windows\system32\dllcache" points to folder, not a file.
And Vista doesn't have such folder at all. You only need to put imagecfg.exe to your game folder and run it from there. Just putting it to your game folder doesn't help at all in your problem, you need to run it under command prompt.
Click on Start-button and then click on Run. In opening window write
cmd. Now you should have command prompt open. Write this in command prompt window :
cd "fullpathtothief2gamefolder". Replace
fullpathtothief2gamefolder with full proper path to your Thief 2 folder. Remember to include quotation marks.
Now you only need to type these commands in command prompt window:
Code:
imagecfg -u thief2.exe
imagecfg -u thief2.icd
imagecfg -a 0x1 thief2.exe
imagecfg -a 0x1 thief2.icd

Mark--
Just holding society to a higher standard! :ebil: If we let you slip up grammar wise, then Sally next door will, followed by Sheila, then the whole damn thing digresses into the neighbors sitting around grunting at each other and pointing.
Brain--
Does Vista allow a Dual Boot? If so, I wonder if it wouldn't be prudent to set up a dual boot that will allow XP to load, eliminating some of Vista's awfulness--or even down to Win-2000, though I doubt one could go back that far since Windows is the incarnate of pure evil.

Brain, i'm sure i can do this, but before i do. Can u tell me why, I was able to install T3, click on play and the game played great....Since, T3 is working, do u think this is really my problem. I bought my new computor, from Cyberpowerpc, all they sell is gaming pc's. i'm thinking they may have fixed these problems when they made it. i'm going to call them tomorrow and see. it's just a thought i had. For your info., when i click T2 to play the game. It starts to come on the screen and then stops. And Vista, tells me the game has stopped working. It offers to check the internet for solutions, but if i click that it searches for about 30 seconds, and returns to the desktop....I am curious, if u think the ddfix, is really the problem. More info., i did everything in the ddfix, except for putting the imagecfg, in the folder, we have been talking about here. The game still did the samething.....thanks for ur help....i do know everyone here is helping because they want to. thanks again...Mark.
