Alrighty then.

Are those knives made of irony or steel?

...but that would have been so much edgier if you didn't misspell "of", and therefore require a double reading that sucked away all the magic. :(

I would suspect that the 'average' person just flying through the sentence and not reading it word by word would not notice the misspelling. I am pretty big on spelling/grammar [usually] and it didn't bother me the first go 'round, well, not until I left the page open for a few minutes and it stood out like a SORE THUMB!!!

If he had a knife then running was the best plan. I lived in London for 7 years and the only times someone made any agressive moves towards me I just stared silently and stood my ground. Muggers are mostly cowards and if this guy had no knife (and it was indeed a phone) then turning to face him might well have have put him off, which would only be a good idea if you had no choice. Always run from a knife though.
It's a real shame that you had to experience this so soon after arriving. I do think that the DLR stations are slightly less manned than the UG stations.

You totally walk around differently when you're new in a big city too I reckon.
I mean, when you're new you probably look new, if you know what I mean. Unsure of yourself. Muggers love that.
Give it a month and your body language will be completely different and muggers won't touch you.

Yeah man, that´s the big drawback of college education: you just look too intellectual and like easy prey. Unless you are the captain of the football team.
Best advice I can give: stop thinking about it. It only makes you bitter. You start to despise yourself for not being courageous enough, you start hating chavs, foreigners or whatever category this guy fits in...
You are alive and got out of that situation without a scratch. Well done. :thumb:

Your story just goes to show that for all the namby-pamby idiotic legislation in UK about banning anything that could ever be considered dangerous (there's people who are lobbying to ban pointy kitchen knives), none of it does the slightest fucking bit of good to stop crime.
No. But then, the namby-pamby idiotic legislation in UKland isn't designed to stop crime. The namby-pamby idiotic legislation is designed to make policing and judiciary easier. Which they do. Phew. Noticing that all the namby-pamby idiotic laws in the US don't stop crime either. Who'd have thunk? BAN CRIME NOW!
