I can no longer setup my mouse to work as I want it to. I have MS Trackball Explorer 1.0. I have used this mouse to play Thief ever since Thief 1 came out. Now it seems that MS no longer supports this mouse and has blocked it being set up. A message pops up saying MS no longer supports it.
Does anyone have any idea of how I can get my mouse to work? If not, what kind of mouse do you use? I really need a optical trackball as the regular mice gives me motion dizziness.
Thanks.

Post moved from the general FAQ thread.
Which operating system are you trying to get the mouse working on?

It looks like a device with regular mouse movement, 3 buttons and a mouse-wheel. Whenever I've put a generic mouse in my Windows-pc in the past, Windows always treated it like a generic mouse with a bunch of buttons. I wonder why Windows wouldn't do that in case your your trackball. When I re-install Windows, and have not yet installed any Logitech software, Windows treats my trackball like a generic mouse with 2 buttons.
I've been using Logitech's symmetrical trackball. Since 1999.

I like them. I will keep using them as long as they will be made.
They are symmetrical, which is handy, because I prefer to operate my trackball with my left hand. Very robust. Easy to clean. The downside is that they have only 2 real buttons. The other 2 small buttons can be used, but not very frequent, as they are inconvenient. Also there is no scrollwheel. But for the rest, I like a trackball like these better than any regular mouse.

I was able to correct my problem with the mouse. I found and downloaded a driver for the mouse. In order to get it to work I had to delete the generic driver and install the new one. I was then able to open the mouse software and set the buttons.
