I see the default cache size is 16 GB, and thankfully that is user adjustable. So a 30 GB footprint sounds about right, and that's a huge improvement. I'm seeing a lot of whining about long load times and surface textures being visibly slow to load, so I guess there is a downside. I hope that performance is snappier when revisiting areas you've previously flown in.

Anybody have any nifty peripherals for their flight sim setup? A couple of years ago I did a bunch of research and found out that browsing through flight sim controls is a hobby in and of itself. There are some really cool things out there, both stock and custom made.

I wanted to invest in something good but not go too nuts. I ended getting the (https://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-Captains-Pack-Airbus-XBOX-PC/dp/B0BG3DQLDD/?th=1) Thrustmaster Airbus Captain Pack (joystick and quadrants), picked them up used on Ebay for about half the price, and they were in perfect condition.

Also grabbed a (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Pro-Flight-Multi-Panel/dp/B01LWRNBI0/) Logitech multi panel, which includes Autopilot controls, flaps, and pitch trim.

My brother-in-law is a bit more on the fanatic side, he's actually a pilot in training and bought all the high end (https://flyhoneycomb.com/collections/hardware) Honeycomb stuff for his setup, which is really nice (but too expensive for my level of interest).

I've just been using my gamepad so far, but I decided I wanted just a little bit more accuracy than the thumbsticks can provide, so yesterday I ordered a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X, for 52€. The "cheap but good" hotas that everyone recommends. Also ordered a Meta Quest 3S.

Once I've got a new PC (which should be the case in early 2025), I'll definitely want to check out these games in VR as well. I don't think I'd ever spend a lot of time flying around, but I already love checking out places I know in Google Earth VR, and this should be even cooler. If they're not 100% accurate, I quite like that uncanny element - it's more like a dream of the place than the actual place. There are helicopters in FS24, right?
