Ok I think I have THE SOLUTION!! I reckon I was right, that for some reason hitherto unknown, the Index.ion file for some of us is allll weird lol Or the fact that the POST CRADLE saved game (and others) are saved in other locations of the Thief world so it's not so easy to recognise which save has which attributes.
...Maybe some people just expected that and had no hastle locating the save?
To load the Post Cradle save you need to load the save several saves below the top one ...it will be called:
Fort Ironwood 07/26/04
00:35:50
You will find yourself in first person view, hiding up against the wall. There are two bad guys kicking around right in front of your face so make sure you keep track of their patrol before you take out the torches at the stair pillar before heading back up to your left and out the catacombes the way you came in and get your thieving taffer back over to Stone Market to the Keepers Library ;)
Check out some sporty Pagan vs Builder type gang fights on the way ...cause that's what they are lol ohh and you are no longer one of 'The Warriors', no one beside street watch is looking for you

I've read and tried all of the above - still doesn't work. I've just installed Thief 3, and because I'm using a dual core, I've had to Set Affinity to have it not loop and crash at the menu. I extracted the appropriate save file (the one in the Cradle) as well as the SaveIndex.ion but I still see nothing in it.
I've got a Windows 7 x64, AMD Athlon Dual Core, thingy.
Yes, it's in the correct folder, as stated "Blah:\Documents\Thief - Deadly Shadows". I've tried doing other saves as well, apart from the Cradle ones, I've tried putting them all there. To no avail.
Everyone else seems to have worked it out, so I have to be doing something wrong. I just can't figure it out. Help please?

I also have a complete set of savegames for Thief Deadly Shadows. All missions passed with 100% loot, caught 0, blackjacked 0, killed 0, items used - about 5 flashbombs for the whole game. Only 3 zombies saw me in the City and that's all.

I dont have a SaveGames folder in my documents thief directory, so I made one. Anywho, I put the files i needed to in that folder but I still have no saves shown when I open Thief. When i open thief i still have no option to click load game, ive tried everything i know, but apparently im missing something.
PS: SaveIndex.ion IS in my SaveGames folder, so thats not the issue. I'd just liek to know why the folder wasnt there and where teh hell MY save games were before i deleted them.

The instructions are for Windows XP. Windows Vista and Windows 7 changed the location of system folders and TDS doesn't account for this. The registry for TDS must be modified to point TDS to the correct system folders in Windows Vista and 7, or there will be conflicts.

A FAQ entry about Thief-3 saves:
(

Once I stumbled upon a setup on Vista where the registry entry points to C:\Users\Username, but the files are actually in C:\Users\Public and it still works.
The SaveIndex.ion file is not the issue at all. You can delete it at any time and the game will scan the saves folder again and create the file from scratch.

Is there any way to get the savefiles without having to use WinRar?
