(so far nothing besides iaudio7 has shown up ... and it is unavailable :/)
Sensitivity could be a problem :/ (the interface problems are quite commonly mentioned - that sounds bad)
Not sure about the forward thing ... but at least it has (somewhere) the feature.

I have iaudio7. You don't need software except to transfer video, but it has a small screen so I don't use it for that.
Sensitivity can be altered a bit with the latest firmware, but perhaps takes some getting used to.
When you lock the device it (optionally) turns the volume control buttons into pause, skip forward/backward, so you can use it blindly fairly easily.
I dont have any problems with it really.

Thanks for the info :)
Now iaudio7 sounds even better than before (not perfect - but nothing ever is) ... if i only could get it somewhere :/ No local providers found.

This doesn't fit with all features, but eSansa players typically are very cheap because they come with limited storage (you add your own via sdcard). I had a 256MB one that I got on Woot for $12.00 US but I put a 2GB SD card in. I listened while I cut grass and I could easily reach into my pocket and press next track or volume up or down without looking. (don't know what the neighbors thought, but it worked).

A month or so ago I purchased a Cowon D2 16 GB flash player and I am very happy with it. It does not require any software to transfer music to/from the device, supports Ogg Vorbis/FLAC and is thus very friendly to non-Microsoft OS's. It also has an SDHC compliant slot on the bottom, so you can add another 16 gigs (which I've done). It does have a touch-screen though. It can (to a limited extent) be operated while in your pocket, because the previous, play/pause and next track buttons are placed far apart from each other. I was gonna give away my Ipod 4G to a friend, but thanks to Rockbox I just can't bring myself to do it.
The battery life is rated at up to 52 hours for audio playback and the sound is just awesome! It doesn't crack/clip/sound terrible when you increase the bass like this Ipod does. This device has a full EQ and many other non-standard features like surround sound simulation. It does support DRM, but it isn't forced on you (UMS by default). I wish I could have purchased a player with NO DRM support though, because I don't want to contribute to the construction/deployment of corporate shackles. I have a feeling it would be hard if not impossible to find such a device though. They all at least support DRM, so we must pay to license it or have no MP3 player.
