Move out! Even if you only have an air mattress from Walmart you bought for $19.99 to sleep on, it's better than being somewhere that you don't want to be. Oh yeah, I guess you'd be sleeping on a blow up chair instead of a bed, huh?
One word of advice, tell your parents you're getting an apartment, and you're wondering if they will let you take any furniture. Don't assume the stuff you've been sleeping on is yours. Don't assume the chest of drawers is yours. Unless you paid for anything by yourself with your money, you had better ask if they will let you take it.
The other advice is to find some place that won't expect first and last month's rent at the same time. Unless you've got a wad of cash somewhere and you can afford that. Most apartment managers will expect at least a small deposit. Most of them are reasonable and will let you make payments toward that deposit or last month's rent if you talk to them first. Let them know you're an up and up kinda guy so they're more apt to let you stay there.
$1200 a month is plenty of money for a $575 a month apartment. Although you won't have much money to furnish it with. Expect your utilities to be about $120 a month. So that's just over half your income. You'll also need food.
Shit, I forgot the most important advice. GO SEE YOUR INSURANCE SALESMAN AND BUY RENTERS INSURANCE. It's only like $9.00 a month or so, and it covers your belongings. Even stuff getting stolen out of your car would get covered. The apartment people won't pay a dime to replace your stuff if their water pipes bust and flood your place. The renters insurance will, however.

Hey guys... just dropping by to let you know how it's all going. Well, my parents gave me a bit of money to start things off since I got this new one-bedroom flat in my town. Well, what do you know? I don't think I can afford to keep paying rent and living expenses with my current pay (About $1,500 per month). I'm thinking of selling off some of my old comics (the new ones are costing me a fortune at the moment, meh...) but to be honest that's the least of my worries. I still haven't figured out how to work the laundry and I've literally been wearing the same pair of clothes for over a month now (not that anyone ever notices, bleh). I get so tired after work (the doctor said I should cut back on my iron intake since it seems to the be source of my fatigue and depression) that I barely have time to consider cooking even though a friend at the bookstore gave me a "Cooking For The Desperately Alone" over the Christmas period. Well, at least I don't have to deal with other people and their mess and their beleifs anymore. Yesterday I thought about how I was going to sort out this months rent (which comes to about $575, how can I possibly afford all these comics and rent at the same time???) but I still don't know how my bank account works. It's one I got for 16-18 year olds on my 19th birthday and to be honest I think the bank has forgotten about me. ALL THE MAIL I EVER GET ARE THESE DANGED PROMOTIONAL LEAFLETS!!! I haven't heard from the publisher for months; although I'm doing a MAJOR rehaul of the final chapters. The guys at DeviantArt said the ending was "cool" so I think I'm in for success this time. It's about time, nothing ever seems to go my way. I'm 27 now and it's past time I started getting on with my life. There's a guy at the store who seems kinda young but I definitely know what he's into although the way he looked at Laura the other day made me have second thoughts. And that horrible coffee he brings in that thermos everyday? Yelch. Still, thinking about it I'm still a virgin and maybe I'm not ready for a relationship yet. I mean my room is kind of a mess and the shower curtain is all burnt and tattered from a ritual to Onskh that went wrong a month ago. Dang, I still haven't told the landlord! I can't afford for my deposit to go, even though my parents paid for it. Ho well, maybe amazon.com do home stuff as well as books and CD's- I could do up the place nice, like in The Sims and then I would have no qualms about people coming round! Still, I don't know how to cook or work the washing machine so it's not like I'd be much of a host, heh! Now that I mention it, I was linked to something about home improvement on the blogsphere I post at most of the time. Not that that is gonna last considering last month's internet and phone bill! Who would have thought life could be so expensive? Meh, I'm rambling again, I suppose.

Food shouldn't put much of a dent in your wallet if you're as sparse an eater as I am. Barring restaurant trips, I spent maybe about $300-400 a month on my grocery bill.
Just remember one thing, when money is tight and you gotta eat, ramen noodles and deli ham are your friends.
Also, check out your landlord. I've known many a people that thought they scored on a particular apartment, only to have a landlord that either wouldn't do any of the necessary maintenance work, or would try to find any excuse to shaft them out of as much money as possible. Ask the other tennants if you have to. If they have issues with their landlord, they'll be more than happy to air them out for anyone to hear.

$80-100 a week isn't alot of money for your average weekly visit to the store. Granted, while I don't eat that much, I never really got into shopping frugally. So he could probably cut down at least $30 a week compared to what I paid for about the same thing.

Move out! There's nothing like coming home to your very own mess. I paid rent at my parents' and had a separate phone line until I moved in with my husband. Coming home to a place that is YOURS, not just a chunk of somebody else's space, is nice. If your parents won't give you any furniture, check out the second-hand stores. We bought the most comfy queen-sized sofa bed for $25. It was butt ugly, but my ass didn't care. Throw a sheet over it. Anyway, go ahead & do it. Money will be tight, but the satisfaction of having your own place is worth it!
