Movement problement, heeeee... - by Nightstroll

Hi everybody. Tonight I am intelligent. I'm having a f*cking bothering bug on Thief 2 since 2006 now and I think to submit it to the Community only tonight.
NB : I'm on Windows XP.
Here's the problem : everytime the main game window is cut (either by reading a book or pushing "esc"), there's about 1 chance to 3 for our poor Garrett to dodge repeatedly. I mean Garrett walks left indefinitely. The only way to stop it is to push "A" (the key asigned to "dodging left"). The problem is once I release "A", Garrett goes on dodging left. This also means I can't dodge left, as pushing "A" in that case only compensates the movement and doesn't invert it.
There's only one way to solve it : rebooting the computer. :eww:
It breaks the game interest, and I must have play something like 10 FM since 2006. A real pain in the ass indeed. Does anyone got this bug too ? If yes, how could I solve it definitely ? (I mean, crush it, smash it, reduce it to dust, atomise it, anything  )
Thanks in advance. :)

When that happens to me, I just press esc again, then return to game, and it is usually fine. I don't know if jump fixes it, but you might give it a try.

Any strange gamepad-like or wireless hardware attached (resp. not attatched)?

Jumping or pressing 'esc' or reading a book doesn't solve it. :erg:
No Beleg, I haven't got anything wired but a laser mouse. ;)

Have you tried pressing Alt? I once had something similar (though not completely identical), where pressing Alt would stop me moving automatically...
ymmv, of course :)

I have had a similar recurring problem in SS2, where I've started backpedalling for some indiscernible reason, mostly after I've spent some time playing. I've dealt with it just by saving and restarting the game, though, so I don't know of a fix.

I've had problems like this from time to time. Quicksaving and loading usually seems to solve things for me, but it seems like your situation is a little more complicated.

Did you accidentally hit the CAPS LOCK? If you use the Tab for weapons or inventory, or miss a QZA and hit Caps, it also causes ingame movement problems.

Nope, I didn't. I realise I didn't mention a detail : sometimes the player doesn't go left but forward, then pressing W solves it and Garrett walks normally again.

The actual question was if that mouse or anything else is wireless. Thief sometimes has problems with some modern keyboards and mouses, especially wireless stuff but also some others.
I'd try a common PS2-mouse and -keyboard.
