Hi
i'm new to this Forum. I've started playing System Shock 1 a couple of Days ago. I love SS2, but i've missed to play the Beginning. I neet to change this. :)
But i dislike, that it was not possible to use the Mouse to look Up and Down. Im' a hobby Programmer an i wrote a small Programm to do this now. And some other (hope useful) Things. :)
Go here to (

What can it do?
* Use the Mouse Wheel, to look up and down in the Game. Adjust the Hold-Time with the Slider. For fine Adjustments, use the Cursor - and Page Keys. It is also possible to flip the Wheel Directions. The middle Mouse Button brings the View return to Centre.
* A hit on the End Key, flips the Up/Down Cursor Keys. (Maybe useful in Cyberspace) Hit again to return to normal.
* If the Mouse have extra Buttons, use Extra Button 1 and Mouse Wheel to stand up and lay down. Extra Button 1 and Middle Mouse Button to crouch. Alternate to the Extra Button, its possible to use NumPad 0. Maybe usful, when using Cursor Keys. A flipped Wheel also effects here.
I think System Shock 1 is a little more handy now. :)
I hope You like it.

I've only tested it on XP with SS1 in DOSBox 0.72. (I can't get it to run ok with VDM Sound.) I don't know if it works on Win9X or Vista. You have to try. ;)

This is so awesome!
Can confirm that it works on XP with SSP. The slider in the program affects the speed at which you look up and down and thus the resolution of angles you can achieve. Can't get the extra button featuers to work like lie down but i'm sure that's just my mouse...i don't care anyway the wheel is awesome. Thank you :)

Aww, what? This won't work in DOS? BOO!!!
And to think, I spent all this time making a computer that works in DOS and plays System Shock w/o the aid of SS-P...
Thanks amundo, nice to see extra featureties added to the game!

Would not like mouse look ... but mouse wheel for looking up'n'down :) excellent idea! Tested and found it to work very well - except the extra mouse buttons (none of them do).
Found an unexpected problem though :/
Well, i was playing it and after surviving an invisible bastard that got to chew my legs - noted: this wheel thing is really nice, no more missing the button to look down when i really-really need to look down immediately and ... :erm: ... wait ... i didn't use it! O_o
aka. how to overcome the nearly one and a half decade of practice :/

Hello. Thanks for all the Responding. Nice to see it is usful. :)
Maybe i should explain a little. What the Program does is: It simulates Keystrokes by using the Mouse. Use it with an open Text Editor, and You will see. So it's a good Idea to close it after playing to prevent Confusion.
That Way it was possible to enhance the Handling, without destroying the Gameplay to much. I don't know if the SS1 Source is open. A real Mouse-Look will only be doable on writing there, i guess.
I forgotten to say, that the extra Mouse Button works only on Win2K/XP. Maybe this could be the Reason why it won't work sometimes. Except wrong Mouse-Drivers, i've no Idea why it should not work. Sorry.
I think around, about that Problem.
