That's great little scene you have there Ziemanskye. I think T3Ed is capable of some wonderful little city street missions.

Hmn just show us some stuff(Most of all the story)! Perhaps everybody of us likes it, but that's not guaranteed...
I don't want to reveal anything that could completely spoil it. So here is a synopsis of the main character's part of the plot:
The main character is named Rupert Daillston. He is the son of Anne and Daniel Daillston. Rupert had a rather lonely childhood as his father was a senator in the council of Blackbrook and it took most of his time. Besides that, Ruperts mother had died to a plague when Rupert was eight years old. Daniel wanted his son to follow his footsteps and become a senator, which resulted in Rupert getting a good education.
After Ruperts mother died, he began "slumming" as the nobles put it. He would play a game of cops and robbers in the streets, with him being the robber. The servants would joke about his behavior, as the Black Hawks (the police force in Blackbrook) brought him back home numerous times. Ruperts father wasn't pleased of his behavior, but he lacked the skills/heart to punish his son.
One night changed Ruperts life forever. A group of people came to see his father. Apparently Ruperts father knew them well as he allowed them entrance, considering the late time they came. Rupert had gone to bed by this time and he woke up smelling the smoke. As he stumbled outside his room, he noticed the flames downstairs. Knowing there was nothing he could do, he leaped out of the window to save his own life. He saw the arsonists leave, but he was too afraid to approach them or do anything.
He didn't know who those men were, until much later when he returned to his former home. Without his fathers support and no cash, he lived in the streets, pickpocketing and living as a common thief. During this time he truly learned what it means to be a thief. For months he wanderered the streets without any kind of direction. His activities quickly gained the attention of the Thieves guild, which approached him and demanded him to join the guild (contest 7 teaser was meant to tell about this time). His father had had many friends and he thought that perhaps one of those friends could aid him in his life (player chooses whether to contact the hammerites or the mages who his father had had dealings with or contact the Thieves guild and join them).
Spoilers!!!:
(Now the plot divides to three. The first missions will give the player lore about the organizations that rule the city and about the problems they are facing. Rupert earns the trust of the organization he joined and the true evils of Blackbrook are revealed to him. The hammerites reveal their fury when one of their members is murdered. After surviving a deadly assault the mages raise a storm of vengeange upon the city. The thieves join the fight aiding the two groups in the battle that rages in the chaotic streets of Blackbrook. "Big" battle, evil defeated, Rupert gets his revenge, etc. I don't want to give out everything right away.
Some Background of the city:
*Please be aware that there is no big plot idea in my head. There are just different stories with links to each other. I got about 40 pages of handwritten text about the plot/characters. Not enough I know, but those pages only have a sentence or two about the mission themselves, so if I added details about the mission it would probably grow to over 100 pages.
Blackbrook and the War:
The war between the City and Blackbrook began ten years ago. Some senators in the Council of Blackbrook wished to take control of the trade routes in the northwest of Blackbrook and start taxing the routes. The King and many of the senators shot the idea down, but when king Thorn was assasinated, the opposition was not enough to stop the taxing proposition to take place. The rumours that the assassins were agents of the City, helped the outcome. Blackbrook sended a message that it would take over the trade routes between the City and Blackbrook and demanded that the murderers of king Thorn would be brought to justice. The City claimed that they had nothing to do with the murder and that the trade routes were free for everyone to use without paying taxes to anyone. They also sended forces to the trade routes to protect its freedom. Blackbrook declared war on the City and sent their troops to take over the trade routes.
The trade routes became a battlefield as the two forces clashed in the middle. With the trade routes closed, trade diverted to sea routes. This allowed Captain Davidson and other smugglers to make quick cash and piracy bloom in the seas. Bohn was well known for its pirates and it became the reason for the war between Bohn and Cyric. Bohn naturally denied all knowledge of the pirates and their attacks, but it was obvious that Bohn was allowing piracy to flourish within its area as long as it gained some of the profit.
The trade routes mainly concerned the City and Blackbrook, so Bohn and Cyric stayed out of the war. Being sea cities it was in their own interest that more trade would be directed to sea.
After the first few battles the war has been in stalemate position. Blackbrook has been on the winning side for the past few years, but they haven't been able gain an advantage to the City's forces. At the moment they both stand in a good position and they aren't willing to back off.
I could tell something generic about the different organizations, if I remove the spoilers first. I also have two new maps of the outside areas around Blackbrook (using the Thief world map as the base). Includes two new towns: Farmgate and Southport. Gave names to many of the rivers, mainly to help out in writing lore, if I need to write about the trade routes or about the movement of enemy forces during the different times.

So it's basically (rendered way down) a new player character with 3 campaigns, each of which is devoted to a faction, which is an otherwise arbitrary choice on the players part.
Even between the community (or because of it...) that could take years to plan. Sounds kind of cool, but jeez, you aim high.

I know. The reason why I never wanted to say anything until I had something to show.
Damn! I never should have said anything. I'll be back later on when I have time to actually start working with the project again. As for now, consider the idea as a fantasy I have in the back of my mind, as it may never become reality. I'll leave the post I made where it is (just because I hate to see deleted posts and have no idea what people are talking about).

I wasn't meaning to be nasty.

Perhaps we should start to work out something a bit smaller but concrete now. How many Editors are we now who will take part in that project? Thats the first thing we should talk about, because if we knew that we could just say: Ok we have 5 editors, lets make a campaign that consists of 5 missions. Some other guys write a storyboard (Or we do it all together in a thread like this here) and some make soundeffects, voiceacting and a soundtrack, which wouldnt be necissary for our campaign, but would be cool for sure.
I would like to work on that last thing in cooperation with ascottk and hanscz perhaps, but not alone because i never did any soundtrack so far. Until now i only produced electronic music, Funk, Hip-hop beats and some Rock music, but i am sure i could learn fast how to build an ambient soundtrack for example. So what do you think guys? :)

I'll definitely take part, with the editing and the story side of things. In fact, I've already got an idea buzzing around my head for a little bit of a 'backstory' that we could build the missions around and gradually reveal to the player, which links in nicely to TDS. I realise that's getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but it's something we could maybe use as a starting point, and build on or rip to shreds as we go ;) . I'll post it up later, once it's a bit more... presentable.

I'm in.
I'm fairly enthusiastic about not doing 1 mission per person though. I'd much rather team up on a smaller number of missions - dictated by story. Small is the new big.
Ziemanskye on 7/1/2006 at 17:03
Could be interesting, so I'd be in if I can get my copy of TDS working again...
In other news though, since the editor is going (I just can't get anything to load into the game - and I'm not even getting errors in the logs or anything... :grr: ), I cooked up this variant of the light-less:

Inline Image:
http://img447.imageshack.us/img447/7584/atmosflatexample2vt.th.jpgThe street is shorter, currently, and one sided because it's on the side of a hill (that's the idea anyway), but I like the particle windows though the fog. I intend to extend the street away behind where the camera is in that shot, then put stairs up to a higher level behind the blocking building at the end.

Nice :thumb:
To get the game working, try deleting the game and editor executables and replacing them with fresh ones from the editor zip file. Its weird, but it worked for me.
