Has anyone here played or read the
Starship Titanic game? If I remember correctly, that one was outlined by Adams but written by Terry Jones.
Wasn't that a while ago? I haven't gone near it, but if that's the one Terry Jones wrote while he was completely naked, I think I know why.

Question to those still reading the thread: how would you feel if they were to publish a book of short stories by noted authors (e.g. Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett) based on and/or set in the HHGTTG universe? Is this something that you'd find interesting or would you be more likely to consider it a cash cow?
Sure it's a cash-cow, but I'd definitely be interested in reading something like this. So I'm a sucker. They make a great writing team (
Good Omens was fantastic), but, considering Pratchett's current health issues, I doubt a collaboration of this magnitude between the two would ever happen.
Also, I read the
Starship Titanic novel that Jones wrote based on the game. Honestly, though I really wanted to like it, it was rather uneven.

Nerd-rage aside, I can't see the point. The beauty of things is that eventually they end. Also, as a writer, I don't understand why Colfer (or anyone really) would want to do it - it's like going from being a novelist to a fanficcer, or sadly scraping someone (much more successful one, too) else's leftovers for easy cash.
Not to mention that no amount of money is worth being the object of hate of gazillion fanatics, AND hearing "He just didn't do it the way Adams did!" over and over.
Also, the classic factor. It's like Rowling writing Lord of the Rings - part IV.

The Lord of the Rings Part 4 - Less Bombadil, More Quidditch
Would sell like hotcakes, I'm sure of it.

Part of the nerd rage is the a relatively successful author like Colfer isn't ashamed to participate in something like this.
As for the short story compilation idea, sure. But trying to continue after the original author KILLED EVERY MAJOR CHARACTER is a worse idea than Lucas re-assembling the original star wars cast for episode 7.

Every major character? What about
The Continuing Adventures of Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz?
If Adams was the one to come up with the changed ending in the Quintessential Phase, the radio series made from
Mostly Harmless, that would indicate he wasn't too happy himself with having killed off Arthur, Ford & Co.
However, whether that was Adams' doing or whether someone else thought, "Let's make the fans happy and bring them all back from the dead", I think it was a shame to do it. Part of what I liked about
Mostly Harmless was its finality. The reset-button rewrite cheapened it for me, to be honest.
