No, Tocky. The egg was tyranny.
Tocky on 20/3/2019 at 04:19
Cool. A tranny egg. Oh wait a tyranny egg. Oh hell then. That surely must be less funny somehow. Sorry, just not laughing less. Not with a bang but with a drippage.

Though I enjoyed the sight of that guy getting egged, all its really done is raise the profile of Anning and probably increased his followers massively. I bet the majority of Australians werent even aware he existed before all this.
mopgoblin on 20/3/2019 at 05:09
I doubt the egging did that; his egg-worthy comments were already being widely reported before it happened. It could also be easily resolved if the police did the sensible thing and charged him (and those other guys) for assaulting the kid.

I'm not suggesting anyone kill or beat Fraser Anning, and I agree with you insofar that it should never be taken to that point, but it's hard to get worked up over the subtle implications of implied violence inherent in the act of smacking an egg upside someone's head when the contrasting counterpoint is the death and wounding of over 100 people.
First of all, I never equated or contrasted a minor assault like smacking someone in the head with an egg, to the horrendous slaughtering of many people...To think such a thing is absolutely ridiculous, and misses the point entirely. The point is about
future potential consequences relating to any aggravating or violent behavior post-mosque-attack. Things can escalate quickly in a sensitive, political context...and when the woods are dry, it only takes a spark to set things ablaze.
Secondly, it's not just "someone" who got hit in the head with an egg...it was a
senator...a senator, which of course represents a group of people. Psychologically speaking, when a representative of a group gets attacked, the natural reaction is that many in that group also feel attacked. Keep in mind, that although an egg to the head is a relatively minor physical assault, it is primarily a
psychological assault...meant to humiliate.
The idea behind this kind of hybrid attack (e.g. egg to the head, pie to the face) is to knock someone down in stature in the hopes that they lose reputation or credibility via implication of social disapproval. Although, the disapproval is only representative with the group or subculture that is aligned with the attacker. In the event of a successful attack, such as this one, many people who are aligned against this particular senator (left-wingers) might find themselves feeling good inside, because they perceive that he has been knocked-down psychically and socially to some degree, and therefore
reduced in power. However, such an attack also creates an
inverse negative reaction within the oppositional group.
There are problems with both the positive reaction of the attacking group, and the negative reaction of the receiving group. For example, another, more radicalized left-winger(s) could become emboldened by this action, seeing it as a signal for more violence against the senator or anti-immigration advocates, which would escalate things for the worse...or...a right-winger(s) feeling like they've been shit on by that attack, and now feel like payback is in order, etc.
This is why it's important to not encourage or support the
initiation of force...because it only ends up producing strife and sorrow, in the end.
It's not time for jokes, or petty humiliation tactics that could cause more pain...
It's time to honor the dead...

Looks like some of the Australian telecom companies have started blocking 4chan and 8chan, among other sites. Will be interesting to see if they lose enough subscribers to backtrack. Hopefully the MAGA and child porn markets in Australia aren't that big.
PigLick on 20/3/2019 at 07:46
Yeh my ISP has blocked the chan sites. I doubt 4chan will be blocked for long though. Apparently the reason is they are still hosting the video of the shootings.

You know, I really can't disagree with that, Vae. It's the major reason why I think Antifa and Co. are doing far more harm than good.
Regardless of the fact that these people are the scum of the earth, assuming violence as the first and primary response won't do a thing to quell it. It'll achieve quite the opposite reaction, allowing them to justify their position to themselves, say they're being oppressed, and attacked by a hateful opposition for life, culture, and creed, and so they have to kill more people to protect themselves. Even the smallest offense can be used to excuse further action.
I actually see it done quite often from the more extreme people I run across, which I why I usually take an immediately suspicious stance whenever someone broaches this subject. They'll use any response to set up a false equivalency, anything to stoke the anger.
We can take the Facebook/Twitter drama as being at the center of all this. At first, they mostly concerned themselves with taking down hate groups, kicking assholes off their sites for violent rhetoric. After enough time, these assholes managed to twist things around as it being a liberal war against conservatives, that they weren't just going after them, but conservatism as a whole. The Left was on the move. As expected, things escalated from there. The liberals saw what was going down, responded to the escalation by ramping up their own rhetoric and attacks, willingly started diving to those same depths, and, well...
...yeah, I think we're already pretty deep into the endless cycle. Things are likely to get far worse long before they get better.

As for those sites, someone should really organise a boycott of the hosting companies who host 4chan and 8chan, and other similar sites.
