All part of the whole political correctness movement, and why millenials are so fragile compared to generations before. What ever happened to sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me?
Often major offense is done on the majority, so that minorities wont be offended. And that makes no sense to me. The world is not a nice place. If people dont learn to toughen up, then they'll get nowhere and be continously offended wherever they go. I hate the word offended nowadays, as its often used by entitled brats. Note that I'm not referring this at people with actual disabilities. The whole PC movement just annoys the hell out of me.
God, you're dull.
rest of the world: maybe we should stop saying hurtful words
you: POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD, I'M GONNA USE A WORD THAT'S OFFENSIVE TO DISABLED PEOPLE BUT ONLY IN REFERENCE TO PEOPLE WHO AREN'T DISABLED, NOT THAT BEING DISABLED IS A BAD THING BUT I'M STILL GONNA USE IT, YOU'RE ALL PUSSIES, YOU NEED TO TOUGHEN UP, I AM A TOTALLY MATURE AND WELL-ADJUSTED ADULT
Go back to being a milquetoast centrist, this "my complete understanding of freedom of speech is rooted in my right to be an asshole" act is best left to people like Eva and Tony.

Aye...'Tis a terrible sight for a sober man.

The reason people don't use the R-word is not to refrain from offending people, it's because by using a word that refers to a mental disability as a swearword you're stigmatising people with mental disabilities.
Also, nobody is taking away the ability for people to hurt each other and be hurt. There is plenty of that to go around even without making light of mental disabilities.
Also, why don't you toughen up instead? Don't like cultural change, well, tough. That's the way the cookie crumbles, no matter how much you whine about it.

First off, whatever fascists get, they deserve.
Even if it's unlawful?
Quote:
you just pulled it straight out of your ass
and managed to perpetuate an Islamophobic stereotype (and you
know it's a stereotype, don't even pretend otherwise) in your defense of a fascist.
I really have no idea what you mean. Realy. No. Idea.
Perhaps the narrative re: acid attacks is different where you are, but here in the UK it's all been people getting at their ex partners or gang related and there has been NO LINK to Islam at all. I think you're showing your ignorance with this accusation.
I'm not defending a fascist btw (how does that even track with my ethnicity or religious background, really?), I'm defending a person's right to defend themselves.
Man, I'm with Piglick and Vae (Vae!!!) on this. I'm quite disgusted at how the left has just said "har har" at this egg issue and lauded the eggboi. It's immature and it's duplicitous. If the reverse had happened can you imagine the OUTRAGE?
Fraser Anning is an idiot. What he said was disgusting. Take it apart for what it is, and if it amounts to a crime charge him. Vigilante justice isn't justice though. This is just stooping to his level.

Oh? I don't know this band. Can't find it on Google. Got links?
You know I agree that people got too sensitive - I don't get "cultural appropriation" at all for example - but I think you're the one being sensitive here. "Retard" is an unpleasant thing to say, just like "Mong" or "Spaz", and it should be clear why. In all fairness I only stopped using the word "coloured" in the last few years, because of the same thing. In Africa it meant a completely different thing compared to its use in the UK and it was a conscious decision to change the habit. I only used it with people who understood what I meant anyway - other people who were from or who had lived in Africa during a certain period - but became conscious that a slip up would accidentally offend here in the UK. It wasn't hard. It shouldn't be hard for you. It's not like the people asking for terms like "obese", which has a medical definition/purpose, to not be used when there aren't alternatives.

Fun fact: the one who's being an asshole the most on this forum is you.
Self-reflection takes some mental effort though, so I understand why you don't see that.

And on looking up that song, I see that I had it the opposite way round. Milquetoast was the name of the song. My bad. Helmet being the name of the band.

You know, growing up in Ireland in the 70s/80s I would have never believed that we would have had a peaceful resolution to the Northern Ireland troubles. I really didn't.
That part of the world was so divided, so ingrained in sectarianism it seemed outlandish that such a polarised province would bury the hatchet and actually sit down and talk to each other. Talk to each other. I mean, holy shit, who would have thought that's all it would take. Your absolute mortal enemy, the antithesis of everything you stood for sitting across from you and speaking their mind. Both believed they were on the right side. And yet, the other side listened.
All those deaths, horrible unnecessary deaths.
The negotiating table may have well been constructed out of the bones of the dead.
I have still have family in the North, what's left of them. Recruiting for the IRA was common in my home town. Fighting the Imperialist Brits, glory to Ireland. Sweet, sweet martyrdom.
'Sure, they'll write songs about ye...just pull the trigger.'
Soft targets, hard targets. They all bled. They all died. On both sides.
Talk. No matter how absolutely repulsive those words are to your very being. The opportunity to change a mind can only be brought about from forthright discussion. It may be difficult, but the alternative is truly terrifying. I didn't think that would need pointing out.
Edit: Well fuck it! Maybe you do need it pointing out again and again and again....

'My views weren't welcome here' is as good an epitaph as anyone could hope for, I guess.
