At Hastings? No, but the Norwegians who invaded a few months earlier did, but they failed against the German English. Who then lost to the Danish French.
[Edit]
Also, I'm Swedish/Scottish, and I'm pretty sure neither was involved in any of that, so "my" ass can not have been kicked at any point. Unless I got really drunk and forgot about that battle and the last 1000 years. I certainly don't remember seeing you there. Did you wear some very distinctive armour? Did I get thumped on the head? Maybe that's why I have a headache now. I could be a lot older than I think I am. But, if "we", the Scandinavians, were there, "we" both won and lost. And then ruled England for the next 400 years. I think I would have remembered that bit. Maybe it was a really bad hangover.

Yup. There isn't a US 90s kid in the world who isn't guilty of using that word, especially the edgy ones. But that was the 90s, this is now.
All part of the whole political correctness movement, and why millenials are so fragile compared to generations before. What ever happened to sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me?
Often major offense is done on the majority, so that minorities wont be offended. And that makes no sense to me. The world is not a nice place. If people dont learn to toughen up, then they'll get nowhere and be continously offended wherever they go. I hate the word offended nowadays, as its often used by entitled brats. Note that I'm not referring this at people with actual disabilities. The whole PC movement just annoys the hell out of me.

Damn it you forced me to do a lot of reading. Pretty cool reading about the battle of Stamford Bridge. You are correct. No Berserkers left for the Hastings battle.

The day I learned that there was an actual Macbeth that ruled Scotland for a period of time. That was my "woah" history moment.

Hey, I have a lot of spare time, and watch a lot of history documentaries. Mostly centered around various English kings and who they killed or invaded or beheaded, not so much about the Scottish, unless they were the enemy. I can name six wives of Henry VIII but not six Scottish kings.

You didn't see her face. Such a lovely smile. It took every argument about PC right out of me. Major offense to not say a word? Nah. I would not say dozens of words for that face. Hundreds. If you ask me it's just as whiney to complain about having to not say a word anyway. Let's toughen up that way what say? That way she will never have to hear it even by accident and be hurt.

Slightly off-topic: my cousin's daughter has Down's Syndrome. Does that mean she is by definition "retarded"? If that is how the word is now defined, I will now have a point of reference, to not use it in the future in the wrong context.
[Edit]
Brethren sent me a PM and mentioned Down's. It just took me a while to process. I've not seen her since she was about 12, well before I moved to Scotland, so it didn't spring to mind immediately. She must be 20-ish now. She had the look you normally associate with Down's, but seemed very clever to me, for a little girl of her age. Some speech problem, but could make jokes. It would never occur to me to call her "retarded".

Yes. I'm not sure how much negative association they pick up from it but I'm not risking it.
We have taken this way off topic and I'm not sure how to bring it back. I'm working on a story in another window anyway. Don't mean to belittle the original intent of this thread. Shit. That's the condition of us isn't it? We move on. No matter how horrible we keep going. The right ones learn things by what happens and the wrong ones never learn a thing but we all plunge ahead holding a dim lantern in the dark.

Yeah, sorry for that little tangent, let's get back on track.
Racism is bad. Don't kill people to make a point. Your point will be lost and your name will be forgotten.
