Attention all people from countries that are not the U.S - the R-word is very offensive over here, even if it isn't viewed that way in your particular country. It has nothing to do with being a SJW. It's a word that's been used for decades to attack and criticize people who are mental handicapped or have special needs. Please do your best to be open minded and consider that this word might offend one or many people around you.
Thank you.

There are so many other more effective words and phrases you can use in lieu of the r-word. Such as fuckwit, or mouthbreathing chunderfucker, or, hell, the sky's the limit, people. Use your imagination.

Again, I apologise for my inappropriate use of that word. My only defense is that I'm old, this is not my first language, and it used to be an acceptable word to describe people of limited intellectual capacity.
Can I still use the word "idiot"? I'd quite happily use the phrase "of limited intellectual capacity", but that takes longer to type, unless I make a copy-paste macro. If only I had the intellectual capacity.
The first part was a genuine apology. The second part veering more into sarcasm. Sorry about that too.

Gray, you're correct about it once being acceptable. Dont worry I'm just as guilty as you.

Britain is a mish-mash of various tribes, people, invasions, cultures. Before the romans invaded, there was a people we now refer to as celts or picts, depending on your position, unclear where they came from, but largely believed they travelled across Europe. Then there was the anglo-saxons, which was not one people, but various germanic tribes. Then there were the vikings, mainly Danish and Norwegian. Some of these also went to northern France and became Normans, who also later invaded Britain. Then some more vikings. Roll with the times, whenever Britain needed something it could not do itself, foreigners were called in. Guess what? Every time immigrants came, they added to the strength of the country. We still need immigrants to run our NHS hospitals, because we can not produce enough doctors or nurses. Where are they gonna come from now post-Brexit? Africa and Asia again? How will we treat them now? As shitty as the Windrush generation? We should be ashamed, not "proud to be white". Fucking retards.
Here in the US we've had a similar experience with immigration. It wasn't that long ago (less than a hundred years) that Irish, Italian, and Eastern European immigrants were viewed as lesser races to Anglo-Saxons and Germans. Each had their own pejorative set of stereotypes, many concentrated on their role in immigration (eg Irish taking jobs from 'real' Americans was seen as a serious issue). Now they're all just generically white ethnicities, Irish-Americans and Italian-Americans are just as American as the rest of us, and white nationalists are happy to include them under the umbrella of the 'white master race'. Who knows what invented dichotomies they'll be advocating in another hundred years.

Oh great, the FM forum seems to be leaking, that's just what we need in a serious discussion about racism and right-wing terrorism.
It looks like the gun nuts aren't happy with the short consultation period for the first stage of the new gun laws, claiming that a moratorium on sales of semi-automatic weapons should be enough for the time being. And apparently while some people have been handing their guns in to be destroyed, others were rushing to buy soon-to-be-banned weapons while they still can. I feel like they're fighting against the tide on this one but it's still pretty depressing.
While sad, this was entirely predictable and expected. I would rather focus on the people who quite happily surrendered their weapons on day 1 than the ones who stubbornly refuse to do so, although I believe it's naive to not worry about what some of them may later do.
[Edit]
Catbarf, that was the point I was aiming for, but I think you worded it better. The so-called pure anglo-saxons are no such thing. We're all some sort of mongrels to a greater or lesser extent.
[Edit again]
I know this is not the right thread for it, but it seems somewhat suitable. (

Yup. There isn't a US 90s kid in the world who isn't guilty of using that word, especially the edgy ones. But that was the 90s, this is now.

We kicked your asses at Hastings.
Also you got off light with the R word. I said it once about ten years ago here and a guy posted a picture of his niece. Sweetest little face you ever saw. There wasn't a rock low enough to crawl under.

Here, let me correct your typo: "some Germans lost to some Danes from France fairly close to Hastings". There, fixed.
