Morrowind - taking gaming to the next level. - by SubJeff

Ok, I'll admit it (but no big heads over at Bethesda now!) - Morrowind appears to be one of the finest examples of a computer game ever.
I haven't played an RPG since Eye of The Beholder 2 on the Amiga (unless you count Thief1+2) and I was waiting for something really big and meaty to get into.
It's here.
The scope of this game. . . the options. . . the freeform play. . . Deus Ex chew on this. Freedom. Pure freedom. It's fantastic. And it looks great ven on my sucky GeForce2 Pro + Athlon 1.4. I've only been as far south as Vivic and as far north as the Bitter Coast and it's massive.
Breathtaking.
If only I had a GeForce 4 and a 21 inch monitor.
Of course I've not explored all the options but theoretically I could play as a completey different character and start in a northere city couldn't I? Would the missions be totally different? Has anyone tried?
The only thing I'm not sure about is sneak. As a Thief fan I'm playing a kung-fu Monk without armour and my smeak is still v.low. I need to use it more but have no need to at the moment. Does it only improve if you sneak in front of an NPC?
And the website is too slow. Otherwise. . . wonderful game.

NO matter what race or gender you play as, you tart in the same place, and you charachter doesn't effect the qests you can embark on, after the first time through, other than to see how other charachters look like, their isn't much reason to play through again.

I don't necessarily agree that there is not much reason to play again. It depends, as most things with the game, on what you are looking to do. I would go through again to get through the other Great Houses, or to try going through as a vampire, or to play through some plugin quests (or plotlines, if I find or develop any). The thing that offers the most replayability is just that: the plugins. You could essentially rebuild the game if you were so inclined - call it a sequel or whatever you want - through using the Editor to create a Mod. Or you could wait for someone else to release something that you would enjoy, if that is your preference (I know working with editors/designing is not some people's bags).

Subjective affect probably hasn't played the game much, if any...
Plugins plugins plugins...
Well at the moment, plugins are 5 minute little 'thingies' you can faff around with..
Ultima Underworld plz!(with Dragons this time)

1st it's EFFECT, affect does not make sense.
2nd, how do you come to the conclusion that I've not played much "if any"? I have 100% unarmed combat and have spent much time exploring the countryside aimlessly, just gawping.
Exodus_dk on 24/6/2002 at 08:41
Tuco doesn't *MAKE* sense - he is the direct opposite actually! Only thing tuco is making - are complaints about the lack of dragons :cheeky:
As for 100% in unarmed combat - well you'll get there fast because each combat takes a long time to resolve... If you played a warrior with a sword - then you'd notice that a fight seldom takes more than 5 hits to resolve! But I like your way of playing - to stay for a long time and explore each area thoroughly... As for your praise of the game - much of it is true... however the game world is a bit to static to allow a VERY different second gaming experience. Some things are very unbalanced - for example magic against melee, where the later is much more powerful than the former.
Quests performed for different factions have too little influence on how the world reacts to your future actions... Just my opinion - but a great(perhaps the greatest so far) game nonetheless. However you lack some combat elements - which are almost impossible to incorporate in a realtime singleplayer, 1st person RPG - such as tactics, protectionspells and counterspells, defensive postures, etc.

(Though I do wish sneaking were more effective)

Well, since Tuco is incessantly complaining that there are no Dragon, AND that there are no long plug-ins, why doens't HE make one that is nice and long, has dragons, ninja monkeys and the sacred "Golden Tamale" or whatever?
Honest criticism of the game is cool and constructive but complaining that "There are just not enough F-18s for my taste" (or similar inanity) begs the response "then don't play the game". Normally, I think Tuco is pretty accurate and yet, with all his encyclopedic knowledge of this game, he still wishes that it was something else...

IMHO, I think that ALL of the Elder Scrolls series have been groundbreaking ang innovative. It is very refreshing to have a game that is so wonderfully open-ended, explorable and receptive to improvement. I myself have made a few "5 minute thingies" to balance some of the play problems I experienced in the beginning, and love the official plug-ins, as they add nuances to the game that make it unique.
As for S.E.'s tactic, I wish that I had done that as well. the island of Vvardenfell is so damn huge, and (except for the annoying Cliff Racers) it is a wonderful world to explore. Definite Kudos to Bethesda for all their hard work (Just think of all the NPCs, books, scrolls, music and plotlines they had to come up with, write and construct into a coherent whole and it is enough to make your head hurt..hehe):thumb:

*grin*
People, after saying how bland and inintuitive the quests are, how repititive the entire world is, and after saying how boring this game gets, begin to talk about this massive plugins spacing over huge terrain of carefully detailed... etc etc...
I'm just saying it takes a lot of effort to do this... (make a big ass plug-in)... so much effort, even, that all that'll get done will be this little things..
Naturally, I hope I'm wrong, in fact, I encourage you to make me wrong... please. (and add dragons while you're at it)
Oh, and subjective 'A'ffect, I don't care enough about you to write your name right... Ijust don't care enough... you're insignificant...
I was merely stating that it didn't seem like you've explored this game very much... please, tell me how far you are in the game...
(Oh, and why would anyone be stupid enough to stick with hand to hand? I mean, after 10 minutes of trying to rend a mud crap apart with your fists, you'd finally realize how ignorant that was... oh well, one to his own I suppose.)
Vet, I don't know if you realize this or not, but there's a few ultima mods coming out, I just hope they do actually 'come out' and not end up being as half assed as this sent
