Hi!
I've been deliberating on whether to buy Morrowind for a while now, as the freeform RPG element really appeals to me. My only concern is the fact that my PC is getting on a bit, and i've heard said game is a bit of a system hog. My specifications are thus:* AMD Duron 800
* About 320MB of RAM
* GeForce 2 MX 32MB Graphics Card
I've seen it in a local store in a 2 for £30 offer along with NOLF2, so if it'll run smoothly enough, I might as well get it. Plus, NOLF2 rocks. :)
Cheers,
Stainboy.

my friend was running it with a:
p3 500
256 megs of probably really slow ram
gforce 1
he was getting around 10 FPS
im using:
xp 1800 1.53 gigs
radeon 8500 128 meg
256 ram
I get around 30 fps outside and sometimes over 100 inside. Your system could probably handle it okay.

Hi Stainboy! I'll be sending you the TTLGnome at some point, you're on the list after me :)
It's difficult to say whether your system would run MW ok, it's a greedy little resource hog, it really is :) More to the point, there seems to be a lack of consistency regarding performance, as some people seem to be able to get it going OK on fairly low-spec systems while others have problems with high-end systems. My advice would be to make sure you can get a refund on the game before you buy, then try it out and you can't get it to run decently take it back to the store. It's so worth playing, it's an incredible game and I think you'd be hooked if you tried it, but you don't want to lose your money if it won't run properly.

Well, I should be getting it on Thursday, so i'll let you know how I get on. I should be able to return it if everything goes tits up, but i'm hoping it won't. Cheers! :)
And regard the TTLGnome - how slow is that bugger? It'll be winter again before I get the chance! Where are you BTW, J?

Here's a comparison of performance on 3 computers, walking around Balmora:
Celeron 500, 256mb PC66 ram, Geforce 2MX - about 6-8FPS, 1024x768, far view, no shadows.
Pentium 3 1ghz, 384mb PC133, Geforce 3Ti200 - about 15-25FPS , 1024x768, far view, half shadows.
AMD XP1700, 384mb DDR266, Geforce3Ti200 - about 15-30FPS, 1024x768, far view, three quarters shadows.

mightous: It was a p3 550, everybody forgets the 50!
As someone who played through the entire game and expansion with TERRIBLE frames (think 20 being good) I can say that it is incredibly addictive, and you may not even notice the slow preformance. The game IS a resource hog, even my current system (AMD AXP2400 and Radeon8500) doesnt run it too hot, the engine is actually pretty shoddy, and has a nasty habit of drawing stuff you can't actually see. I always wonder what Morrowind would have been if it's engine had been written with the kind of dedication to preformance that's put into the Unreal and Quake engines.

Dedication to performance? UT and Quake are both based on (compared to Morrowind) tiny levels with hardly any models running around.
15 FPS in Morrowind is more than playable (I finished the game with a Celeron 433 with a TNT2, and that played with 5 fps.)
My suggestion: Turn the damn FPS counter off and just play the game!

I finished Morrowind with a Duron 800, 256M ram and a GF2 (not MX). It played fine for the most part. Now I have the same shit except for the graphics card. I have a GF4 4200 now. :D
But the funny part is, it mostly plays the same, except for little graphical touches. :)

Stainboy. He's taking his sweet time-obviously enjoying the trip too much to hurry. Never mind, I'm sure he'll be worth the wait :) I live in Macclesfield, Cheshire....just over the Pennines really.

I tried to join the gnome project and clicked on the link and it did not work. I want to play too! How can I?
