Been playing Morrowind, and I have to say it impresses the heck out of me. I don't think I've played an RPG that impressed me this much for years at the least, console or PC. It's like Omikron and Daggerfall mixed together and improved ten times over.
What I'd like to know, though, is if there's anything random in this game? Quests? Dungeons? Contents of dungeons? Anything?
I remember playing Daggerfall, and there was constantly new news in each city or a new event going on between one guild or another, even if the actual description of what was going on was on the starchy side. Does Morrowind have content like that, or is it more along the lines of, say, Baldur's Gate, where there are tons of quests, paths, and options, but it's all predetermined, just in tremendous amount?
Loving the game either way.

if you're asking what i think you're asking, that particular kind of randomness was removed. it was one of the biggest complaints (according to the designers... todd and the boyz) .... well besides the bugs :D in daggerfall.
they decided to make everything unique this time around. :) so, yes in that way, its more like BG. ::slaps her forehead:: kinda weird comparing MW to BG tho. they are just SO different.
hope that settles your question for you.

Archim, after playing around with the Construction Set a bit, I can assure you that the contents of some chests is random. Some dungeons will also have a variable number of monsters (set by using a negative number in the plug-in), and there is a thing called "Levelled Item" and "Levelled Creature", which spawn in varying difficulties according to your character's level. The higher you are, the tougher the Levelled Creature is, and the better the Levelled Item will be.
Other than that, they hand-built everything in the game. Some spots can respawn (there's a setting for that, too), but the idea was to avoid the flat, colorless feel of all those random dungeons in Daggerfall.
I'd say they've succeeded marvelously. And if you want something a little more random, you can always build your own dungeons. The CS is not that hard to figure out -- just takes some patience and trial-and-error at first. Plug-ins are going to make this game the most extendable we've ever seen since Doom :cheeky:

As far as the crates go, yes a lot of them are very random. My buddy and I bost started new games and when we got to Balmora we were taking all the goodies in the crates. He was rewarded with a sweet enchanted belt which allows him to conjure up a little scamp monster to kick ass. I got a lame flame axe which I sold for the cash.
So some of this is random.

In one of the houses in Gnisis (quest-related house), I wandered through the first time, killing rats and skeletons, happened upon a locked chest which had in it an ebony axe. I accidentally waxed a peaceful Daedroth, so I reloaded the game and went back in the house. This time I got a dwarven warhammer. Got caught stealing this time and reloaded again. Third time through, got myself a nice ebony longsword from the chest. I was happy with this, so I quicksaved, went back to the original save, and went in to randomize what I got in there. A couple dwarvens, a couple ebonys, I think an enchanted glass as well. All weapons, of varying types. Other than chest contents, the only other thing I have seen randomized is creatures. Going through the tomb in the foreign sector underworks two times - first time I met up with a half dozen skeletons and two bonelords. Second time I met two skeletons and six bonelords.

The game is fantastic, that's for sure, but unfortunately, no random quests. Yes, it's easy to make random encounters or random treasure. Also, I find the game engine giving far to many magic items for my taste...
I am thinking of scripting random quests in the Construction Set. The game is a rough diamond and I don't mind spending some time to polish it... ;)
